5.0 out of 5 stars Simply The Best !
Having all of Jeff's CD's, I ask myself: What's next? I picked up
Soul Sessions last week and I can't describe the amazing talent.
I find most blues players repetitive and predictable. Jeff combines the elements of blues, soul, funk, smooth jazz in such a
way that sets him apart from the rest. My favorite tracks are
Back Home, Vibrolux, Playin It Cool...

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit Blusey for me.
I love jazz guitar, but the problem I have is finding new artists that are as good as my favorities(Ronny Jordan, and Norman Brown)In the pursuit of new artists, I happend to be a Virgin superstore in London, where I asked a gent to reccomend some smooth jazz peeps. This CD was thrown in my direction, and after a quick listen, I duly purchased. The first cut Boom, Boom is...

I find most blues players repetitive and predictable. Jeff combines the elements of blues, soul, funk, smooth jazz in such a

driving music. Having seen Jeff live is the ultimate experience,
and the live feel he creates on this disc is a close second.
As a guitar player, Jeff is in a league of his own. My CD collection is comprised of 95% smooth jazz guitarists. Given the
pool of overall amazing talent out there, this is a great CD and
well worth adding to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Soul Sessions" Music for the Soul., December 3, 2003
By
This review is from: Soul Sessions (Audio CD)
Sit down, relax, and take a close listen to this disc. This is music reminiscent of the jazz greats of the sixties, with Jeff's fretprints all over it. I was fortunate enough to hear Jeff "live" in Chicago (before this was released) where he opened his set with the first track "BOOM BOOM". WOW! At first listen of the entire disc, I felt it was right there with all of Jeff's releases. But then, as I listened again and again, I was knocked out by his playing. On tracks like "Isn't That So" and "Can't Let You Go", he isn't the instrument on the track, he is the other voice. His playing as emotional and soulful the vocals. Pick this one up, then sit down and listen to a REAL guitarist, a jazz great, and an album that would be a fine addition to any collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have, November 28, 2003
This review is from: Soul Sessions (Audio CD)
I am a big fan of this artist. Soul Sessions is Jeff's best work to date. My favorite track is "Back Home." Other great cuts are "Can't Let You Go" with guest vocals from Steve Perry and "Vibrolux." This is a great cd to drive to or unwind to. If you are a guitar player, Jeff's amazing vibrato and tone shows he has complete control. He is a monster player! Soul Sessions has some great grooves and a great sense of melody. PicK up this cd and check out his past works as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jazz with the Steves!! (Cole & Perry), August 13, 2003
By
This review is from: Soul Sessions (Audio CD)
First off, this is a great CD. Jeff catches your attention
with the first track. It's a latin number (there are a few of
these). There are also the awesome jazz numbers that Jeff just
rips through (these are amazing!) The ballads are well done and
ballenced. The CD in general is well made, and the sound is
incredible.

Steve Cole comes in on two tracks on sax and adds an awesome
new flavor to the already good songs. Cole & Golub have excellent
chemistry, and these two song tracks are great!

AND, Steve Perry has his first appearance on a CD in over 5
years!! Not a large piece, but definately Perry on vocals. It's a
simple jazz number, pretty much the rhythm section, Jeff, & Perry.
In my opinion, the best number on this CD, these two have great
chemistry (track is Can't Let You Go), and it's also nice to know
Steve Perry still has it where it counts!!

Other musical guests include Mindi Abair, Richard Elliot,
Marc Cohn, & Jeff Lorber. Great CD. I would recommend it to anyone
who likes jazz or any of the guest performers. Also in my opinion,
the Steves, Perry & Cole, are the best of the performers. Great
buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just smooth jazz, September 4, 2003
By

This review is from: Soul Sessions (Audio CD)
This is a funky, bluesy, jazzy, grooving album that defies the category of "smooth jazz" which is where Golub is usually lumped. While there is plenty for the sj fan, there's also solid doses of blues, funk and jazz for any listener to enjoy. The vocal guests are not the typical voices that sj artists usually have join in, but classic singer/songwriters that, especially adult fans, will love to hear from again: Marc Cohn and Steve Perry. They both sound amazing. Jeff Golub is as unique a contemporary jazz artist as there is out there, and this album puts him atop the list of the best.

If you liked Dangerous Curves, you'll love this new one from Golub. He never seems to run out of original material, as well as solid remakes. I never tire of listening to all four of his works that I now own; Out of the Blue, Do It Again, Dangerous Curves and now this one. Even the Gwen Stefani remake, although not the usual upbeat, funky style that I expect from him, tends to grow on you.

The title to this CD says it all. If you like to see the talent of a real guitar gunslinger with an emphasis on SOUL, then this is the CD for you! Each CD Golub has done has a different theme. Although many may be excited to see JOURNEY's former frontman singer Steve Perry contribute some vocals, I really enjoyed the soulful tunes on the other tracks. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smooth soul-jazz, August 17, 2003

Jeff has definitely found a nice niche in the soul sub-genre of the smooth jazz market. He isn't the flashiest guitarist around, but his music is consistently relaxed and pleasing. On this outing he successfully produces retro "live" studio sound. The disc is even made to resemble a vinyl LP. Guest musicians include Rick Braun, Richard Elliot, Steve Cole, Peter White, Jeff Lorber, Ricky Peterson and Nathan East. Guest vocalists include Mindi Abair & Steve Perry (who merely repeat the song titles several times). My only complaint is that Jeff doesn't seem to push himself much on his compositions or solos. I guess he figures why mess with a good formula once you've found it.

I saw Jeff Golub in concert and rushed out to buy this CD soon thereafter. I found the CD to be a disappointment. The music he played, and how he played in concert was much better than anything on this CD.
