Book Description

October 28, 2011
Everyone you know is dead or dying. Your world is coming to an end. Could you do what’s necessary to survive? Would you even want to survive? Would you be able to face horrors like the undead relentlessly pounding at your door, and murderous extra-terrestrials with the extinction of the human race as their one and only goal? How about deadly plagues that ravage entire populations or even your own human brethren turning to your flesh as a last ditch source of food? These are only a few of the many horrors that await you inside these pages. Inspired by the works of David Moody, UK Author of “Hater” and “Autumn”, you will now face the terrors of a dystopian world through the eyes of those who witnessed the end. These tales will leave you as alone and terrified as those who told them. You have been warned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning work of Apocalyptic fiction October 30, 2011
Format:Paperback
Being the last person on Earth isn't as glorious as it may sound. Sure, being completely naked while driving priceless sports cars through suburban shopping malls may sound like a good idea (not that I'd ever consider doing that *cough*) but Apocalypses being what they are, things don't always work out the way you expect. There is always a downside.
Zombies, for instance. Aliens. Werewolves. Cannibals. In any apocalypse, the odds will be pretty good you will be spending most of your time struggling just to live.
Soul Survivors VOL.1, from Knightwatch Press, has crafted an anthology that takes this subject and runs with it. 13 tales of Apocalyptic horror from some of horror's newest stars that's asks the reader- what would you do if you were the last one alive? How would you cope? Would you crack and give up, or would you fight with everything you had? These stories, all wonderfully realized in their own way, don't deal with super heroes or action heroes. These are everyday people who were lucky (or unlucky) enough to survive.
It's rare to find an anthology that has such a strong selection of tales. To me, there wasn't a weak link in the book.
Every story, no matter which form of the Apocalypse it took, was brilliant in showing the fear, the uncertainty, the HUMANITY of each survivor. These stories are stunning in their scope, and they will stay with you, long after you turn the final page.
Help support independent publishers, especially ones like Knightwatch who absolutely hits this one out of the park. Buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book kicks some serious butt!!!! October 31, 2011
Format:Paperback
This is one heck of an anthology. If you like horror, you NEED to do yourself a favor and check it out!!!!! Shawn Riddle is a writer and editor to watch in the genre. I suspect we'll be seeing a LOT more from him in the future. The book itself is also very made and would go nicely in any horror collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars superb November 30, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Being a big fan of 'I am Legend' by Richard Matheson, I thought I would give this book a go. This is one of the most well put together anthologies I've seen in a long time. Most anthologies I have read have always had a weak link in the book, they always had that one story that hurts my image of the whole anthology. For instance, "The Living Dead" (compiled by John Jospeh Adams) was a massive tome filled with a bunch of zombie goodies, except for some odd reason, the editor put in stories that had no business being in the anthology. One of those stories, "Zombie Contingency plans", wasn't even about zombies! The only mention of zombies was that the main character liked zombies, (yeah ridiculous, I know.) that is all, and that has given me a sour image of anthologies.
But Soul Survivors has restored that image. There isn't a single bad story in this book. Each story is incredible, thought provoking, and some are downright disturbing.
and right now I would like to point out some of my favourites from this strong assortment of stories. Just because I don't mention a particular story in this review, doesn't mean I didn't like it, they were all powerful.
"Pretend girlfriend" is a short but sweet emotional ride of a young survivor, very well done.
"Tired of being Bored" by J. Rodimus Fowler is a different kind of story, definitely not a conventional apocalyptic tale. Well written, spooky and an overall well crafted story.
"Love Thy Neighbour" by Patrick D'Orazio was a solid tale with a dark rawness to it, Excellent.
"City of the Dead." by Sean T. Page was an intriguing story about a professor locked away in his study while the world has fallen into disarray. A very well written story, the author has a great voice and he was able to create a very haunting atmosphere. Spooky stuff.
"A warm Spring day." by Sean M. Thompson is a very twisted tale. I usual don't take too fondly to stories about demons, but this story was so disturbing that I just couldn't put it down. You know a story is good if it resonates, and now I can't look at a telephone pole the same way again.
Last but not least in this list, is Charlie Morgan's "Birthday Wish". This is perhaps the most emotionally driven of all the stories in the anthology. It was a strong, well written story. The only issue I had was that it needed to be longer, absolutely solid story.
All of the stories were great, and I have said before: none of them are weak. I'd advise any fans of post-apocalyptic fiction to get a copy, it won't dissapoint.
