4.0 out of 5 stars Good mix, but not "mind blowing", December 9, 2002

This is a great sample of the sounds you are likely to hear in a recent jungle set by any of the big DJs. There is a lot of High Contrast latiny elements to this mix with equal parts old school hardcore and tech step. The standouts in my mind are the Mexican by Danny C and Morning light by Concord Dawn, the latter is an absolute fierce hovering b-line that you will replay again and again. At times this mix gets a bit busy with the old school dark elements, but overall this is a good listen for a jungle fan and I would recommend it.

First of all, baileys mixing is emaculate and not only does he deliver a cohesive flo throughout but really gets a sweet groove goin between tracks! unlike dieselboys rather cold mixing on the other hand. Wow! big ups for the many styles this guy presents, kik'n it off with Sonic and Silvers "prelude" then drivin' it right through Dylans very unique "so special" as he strums into that bouncin nalga-licious danny c track "the mexican". then takin off on high contrast "return to forever" as klute remixes preserving the track entirely only adding his signature futuristic sleek techno edge.

Before you know it you plunge into sum wicked dub-style dnb, real proper stuff man, then all of the sudden gettin' your freak on dylan and b-key's freaky track. then he hits you with concord dawns dark "morning light" only to sucumb to future prophecies sinister "stalker. then dom and kemal only add an even darker ambience with "moulin rouge". soon enough your shaken out of you misery as cujo (aka Amon Tobin) delivers a smack down of a track all dillinja-style. then alpha omegas rugged "dont believe it" breaks in with machine gun breaks that'll gett your head bangin" only to lay it real thick with lemon d's supa funky "give it to 'em" that'll gett you doin the nasty. gettin' darker now, as mencers "shadow warrior" slams your face in with a killer ninja/matrix hardcore track leaven you gaspin for air. then "captain howdy" gets real grimey. Phew! A-Z all the tracks, a definite must for all junglists! you know the routine; play it loud, and drop it hard!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST JUNGLE MIX EVER RELEASED INTO THE MASSIVE!, October 7, 2002
By
This review is from: Soul Thunder (Audio CD)
I've heard about every jungle dj live and this is the only cd that depicts what the scene is all about. This isn't drum and bass, IT'S JUNGLE! The tracks are so perfect that it seems like this is a 70 minute song, not a mix. The mix starts off jazzy and loose with a new tune called "The Mexican" finishing it off. Then, here's where the emotion starts. The track by High Contrast is so freaking great, I wouldn't hesitate when calling it the best jungle song of 2002. Then the 'isht really hits the fan. The rough sounds and amp dropping bass is in every track! That's hard to find these days. if you enjoy ANY type of electronic music, then you'll definetly get a...for this mix!
