4.0 out of 5 stars Names and associations can be deceiving!
Think of the group "Soul Train Gang", and most familiar with the Don Cornelius hosted show may associate the music from this group along the lines of that venue. Think not! The group's actually a harmony soul outfit that managed to get two albums ("Don Cornelius Presents The Soul Train Gang"-1975 & "The Soul Train Gang"-1976) released. The songs on this cd are culled...

2.0 out of 5 stars These are NOT the hits.
Having loved Soul Train for many years I bought this without much thought. Oops, bad mistake because this is decent music but this stuff by the Soul Train Gang is not part of the Soul Train hits we so fondly remember. Yes, as the first reviewer noted, this is pleasant, professional music, but NOT worth a 4 rating.

The songs on this cd are culled from the two lps. Between the two albums beneficial production and arrangement involvement with the likes of Solar label owner Dick Griffey, Gene Page, Norman Harris, Ronnie Baker, Bobby Martin, etc. abound!. Actually, the bulk of the 2nd lp was recorded in Philadelphia, under the guidance of Norman Harris. As well known by those familiar with the "Sound Of Phildelphia", any group of substance, shuttled to Philly, to receive production benefits from Philly legends aforementioned, are bound to come out of the set with some good/great music. This is a cd with some good soul music on it. For sweet soul ballad collectors, if not familiar with "If It Takes All Night", a treat is forthcoming- excellent sweet soul harmony! The albums themselves did not slip by the keen vision of soul record collectors, who have long insured both lps are properly racked in their personal record collections. The current market value of the albums, if located, will press potential buyers to reach deeper than the prices for the crystal clear cds. For sure, if not already there, room need be made for the spot this cd should enter in a soul music collection. Don't let the group's name fool you. For ballad collectors, "If It Takes All Night" slots the cd into a 4 star rating. It's buy time!
