Very good for the novice and the experienced OBE'r,

This review is from: Soul Traveler: A Guide to Out-of-Body Experiences and the Wonders Beyond (Hardcover)
I am on my 61st year of soul travel and I still found Al Taylors book full of good input for both the novice and the experienced OBE'r. What I particularly enjoyed was his simple direct approach that gave most of the information in 1 hour that I had to read for weeks to obtain from Jane Roberts, Robert Monroe etc although I did really find Monroes books to be very very interesting and helpful. Al Taylors book gets down to practicalities QUICK and did give me a few pointers I had not uncovered. Very enlightening and enjoyable.

Most Excellent Book ! You won't be sorry you bought it !,
This review is from: Soul Traveler: A Guide to Out-of-Body Experiences and the Wonders Beyond (Hardcover)
Dr.Taylor puts forth an informative, intelligent and easy to read book on this controversial subject. He does not bore us with all the "new age jargon" or "arrogant ramblings" that most authors do on Astral Travel. He is straightforward, honest, and "down to earth" (no pun intended). I found his experiences have helped me immensely in my own quest to soul travel. His background as a NASA Engineer only gives more validity to his writings. If you want a book that is complicated, overly technical, and slathering in arrogance this is NOT the one. If you want a book that is easily understood, interesting, excellently written, with a little humor, THIS IS DEFINITELY THE BOOK. I read this book in one sitting. Excellent Job Dr. Taylor!

I have been interested in achieving astral travel for several years now, and I've read more than one book on the subject(with no success). Dr. Taylor's is the first I've come across that approachs the subject in such an open, friendly, and personal way. Soul Traveler is the first to really consider the "fear factor." Taylor speaks as one friend to another, instead of like a teacher to a roomful of students. I found his personal accounts of astral travel so reassuring. I want to thank you Dr. Taylor, most sincerely for sharing your experiences. You have renewed my hope. Dr. Taylor is a fine example of being extraordinary yet down to earth and uncomplicated in a world that can be ordinary yet increasingly complicated.

This is the best single volume introduction to out-of-body experiences that I've found. While I consider Robert Monroe's classic three volume collection to be the best (Mr. Taylor also sites them and lists all three in his bibliography) I do believe that this is the book that I would recommend to a beginner in the field. It is extremely well-organized and the language is clear and straight-forward (as one would expect from a NASA engineer.) Having worked most of my life in engineering departments I can appreciate the courage that it took to publish this book on the part of the author.I especially recommend chapter 9 (The Ultimate Truth.) This gives a very plausible metaphysical explanation of the meaning and purpose of these experiences. This raises the book above a mere "how to" manual.

Highly Recommend, I Now Understand...,

This review is from: Soul Traveler: A Guide to Out-of-Body Experiences and the Wonders Beyond (Mass Market Paperback)
I read Mr. Taylor's book in one day. After reading the first page, I was so captivated that I finished the whole book later that night. This is coming from someone who does not like to read. This book has heped me understand so much. I too, at a young age started to experience this "death-like paralysis" which later led to what his grandmother called "witch rides." I understand Mr. Taylor's fear because I felt the same way. Imagine as a young child, waking up or at least you think you woke up but can not move. You try to move a finger, anything just to wake yourself, even scream if you can but nothing seems to work. Then you may even see figures walking around the room and wonder if they are going to attack or harm you in some way. So many times I have prayed to not let me get into this state but it just continually happens. I tried to look for answers as to why this was happening to me. I stumbled across Robert Monroe--Journey's out of the Body. I purchased and read the other two books he published. It was very helpful as well but there was something about Mr. Taylor's work that seemed so real, that I can easily connect and understand what he was going through. There were lots of times, as I was reading his book that I thought "oh, so that was why I saw or heard this..." This book was a real eye-opener and a blessing. After reading the last page, I thought he needed to add more information about what he saw, especially the other entities, spirits etc. since this was what really prevented me from exploring and disconnecting from my physical body. Then I remembered and realized what Mr. Taylor had said, that fear will hinder us from every finding our "higher self," that once in that "astral state," whatever we think of will manifest/appear so it is important to let all of one's fears disappear, in doing so as Mr. Taylor stated "you will have very little difficulty during your own soul travels." I know letting go of ones' fears is not easy so I just try to remember what Mr. Taylor stated that we should not fear since we are all beings of light. Surrounding ourselves with this white light will help and I believe it will. I hope this was helpful. I don't claim to be an expert in the field. I am just someone who wants to know, learn and understand why and I feel Mr. Taylor has done just that. Thank You Mr. Taylor for sharing with us your experiences. It has truly opened my eyes and has helped me further understand my OOB (out of body) experiences. : )

A NASA engineer explains the Out of Body Experience,

I've always liked this book by Albert Taylor well enough to keep a copy or three around. When I occasionally encounter people who are experiencing OBE, but don't understand what's going on, I recommend this book. If I had to only own a single book about Soul Traveling, this would be it (though I'd miss Robert Monroe).
Taylor, like Monroe, didn't deliberately choose to have OBEs. Both men wanted badly to find any other explanation for what was happening to them. As men of science, each seemed to prefer to believe they were going mad, rather than consider the experience to be exactly what it appeared to be. If you know nothing about OBE, but if you want to know about it with none of the hocus pocus, nothing but the observations a man of science makes of his own (involuntary, in the beginning) experiences, I'd strongly recommend you buy this book.

I checked this book out from the library and couldn't put it down. Most of the book is excerpts from his journal which really brings this to life. He outlines several different techniques for entering trance and making separation, as well as how to abort an attempt should you really need to. Mr. Taylor also provides his email address and encourages readers to contact him.

Knew less when finished than when I started..,

This review is from: Soul Traveler: A Guide to Out-of-Body Experiences and the Wonders Beyond (Mass Market Paperback)
I found this book to be a rather strange, simple, one day read. I picked it up out of curiosity, and based on all the great reviews, because I still have very vivid memories of OBE and what I realize now was astral projection, up until my teens. It was a natural tendency, I suppose - it didnt' occur to me that it wasn't 'common'. But, the end came when basically, I was "found" while out on a jaunt, shook within an inch of my life and soundly scolded, heard the whispers that I must be "possessed" and got too scared to do what came so naturally ever again. Anyway - this book, I hoped, might cast some light on how I might be able to return to it, as an adult. The first 5/6ths of the book was just the authors flight journal, so to speak - a sort of dream diary (except he wasn't dreaming), written in very simplistic and rudimentary terms. And, then when it seemed he might be planning to offer some insights into how to begin, all he really dishes up is the standard sort of "surround yourself with white light", and "relax and breath a sound" mumble jumble that makes a joke out of most new age concerns. I was appalled. Gee - if it was THAT easy, we would all be flying about at night, right? Essentially, if you have already been there, its laughable how he simplifies it and if you have never done it, you don't stand much chance of figuring it out from this little blip of a book.I was very disappointed - but I only blame myself - for thinking someone would be able to condense something like that into sense and then create an instructional guide. In any case, I was happy to find out that 1) I'm not crazy and 2) I'm very much not alone.

If you have ever woke up in the middle of the night, unable to move or speak, and thought you were dying, this is the book for you. There was a time when I was afraid to sleep. Now I look forward to it. This book is about OBE's (out of body experiences), and it will open a new door to your life. Albert Taylor is funny and down to earth. I hate reading, and I ripped through this book in two days (a minor miracle). Very easy read.

This review is from: Soul Traveler: A Guide to Out-of-Body Experiences and the Wonders Beyond (Mass Market Paperback)
Albert Taylor's book is not only fascinating and enjoyable, but extremely easy to understand. Written in a journal-type format with the bulk of the book containing details of his experiences on the astral, this book reads almost like a novel. In fact you can probably read it in one sitting if you chose to. On the plus side he keeps the tone of the book very simple and straightforward. For those who enjoy the simplicity, this book is a good place to start your journey. For those however who enjoy something more scientific and written in greater detail, which is the minus side of this book - no detail - then I would recommend William Buhlman's book 'Adventure's Beyond the Body,' which I honestly believe to be a much better book. But for the easily befuddled, this book is a blessing. |
