A Spectacular Tale,
By Andrew Rice (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Soul for Tsing (Paperback)
"A Soul for Tsing" is a tale of a tough young woman in a tough city. A pauper, she is required to do things she doesn't want to make it in the city, her ultimate goal being to restore her sickly mother to good health.
There are many twists and turns in this novel that lead this young woman to become a heroine for everyone to like. "A Soul for Tsing" will touch upon each and every one of your emotions at least once. When I received this book in the mail I was a mere day away from going on vacation (which meant a five hour plane flight). I planned to read this on that flight. However, I broke that promise to myself and started reading it the day I received it. I found myself enmeshed in the book, unable to put it down. By the time the next day had come and it was time for my flight I had only fifty or so pages left. Everyone must read this book. It breaks the mold of classic fantasy and emerges the reader into a tale that he or she will not soon forget.

Wonderfully refreshing!,

I discovered Chris Jackson when I met him selling his books at DragonCon last year. He was such a nice man and his cover art was so unique that I picked up Weapon of Flesh, which I promptly devoured. I got A Soul for Tsing for Christmas and only just got the time to read it, but it's as wonderful as Weapon of Flesh! I find most fantasy writing too dark, too despairing of human nature, but the author's take is much more positive and I love his style.

Great page-turning swords & sorcery novel,
By Roy Soto "Roy" (Bloomfield Hills, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Soul for Tsing (Paperback)
I was very pleased to find this book, and decided to give it a try given the interesting cover art. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was also a very nice read. The action is non-stop, the dialogue is intelligent and appropriate to the plot, the character development is strong, and the plot is interesting...go figure! The story revolves around the desire for an emperor to have a weapon like no other...one that has the soul of a dead paladin bound to it. Unfortunately something goes wrong (as it always does), and the dead paladin's long lost daughter is needed to save the day. Of course she just so happens to be a thieving prostitute that's on the run from the law...see what I mean? Interesting stuff! If you're a fan of quick-paced swords and sorcery and you like well described fight scenes (a la RA Salvatore), give this book a try. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely amazing story about a very intelligent young woman struggling to survive and care for her ailing mother. She is the only hope to save a kingdom, but could care less. Wonderfully written and an entrapping story that simply draws you in and is impossible to put down. Katie, the heroine, is a very rich character who is very kind but does what she must to survive, whatever it is. Quite the adventure.
