If you've never heard J-Boogie's Dubtronic Science before then the best way I can describe it is a fusion of hip-hop, drum & bass, smooth jazz and 70's R&B. The overall result of this mesh of sounds is quite nice and unique. If you don't like hip-hop then you probably won't like the overall feel of the album. The lyrics are mild as far as hip-hop/rap is concerned. Some of the tracks remind me of something you'd hear Naked Music put out or possibly Jazzanova. If you're familiar with Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz series then you'll recognize one of the tracks from this as it was used on one of the later volumes. I'm not familiar with J-BDS's previous work so I'm not able to compare it to his earlier releases. |
