Genuinely for those with a serious intent to make the most of their time in this world to have an eternal impact., September 29, 2009
This review is from: Soul Winner's Secret (Paperback)
Samuel Brengle approaches his subject with a serious purposefulness and gentleness rarely witnessed in current Christian circles. It can perhaps only be compared today to the "blood earnestness" of John Piper's "
Don't Waste Your Life Group Study Kit," or Mike Cleveland's testimony of transformational freedom from sexual addiction in
The Way of Purity: Enjoy Lasting Freedom in Christ (Setting Captives Free).
This book was written before many of the modern biblical translations, so the wording of the "authorized version" is often a basis for further discussion, and the language of the work is itself just slightly archaic, so a competent and regenerate reader should quickly adapt to the feel and flow so as to have relatively little difficulty, though an update would be welcome.
Without convention or pretense; without a reliance on novelty, humour or wit to simply feed the hollow laughter of an intellectually-stimulated or otherwise entertained audience; with a resolute abandon to familiar forms, paired with a sober realization of the brevity of life; Brengle establishes a paradigm which enables his audience to gravitate away from wishing and dreaming about making a difference and toward the mindset and practices resulting in a fruitful harvest. In the same vein, he encourages the attitudes soul-winners possess which gives unbelievers' priceless souls an unspoiled opportunity to take root to a saving faith, receive nourishment, and grow steadily to maturity--from now to eternity.
