The Soul Zodiac CD is a must for all lovers of real and smooth Jazz. There is something here for Jazz lovers, and those who seek the wisdom of their zodiac sign. Aries is exceptional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do you have any idea what it's like to wait 15 years for this?, October 26, 2010

At my old college radio station, I used to play this album from time to time. Then one of the other dj's graduated and the record disappeared. Imagine that.

Out of print and HARD to find, I've been waiting for this to be resurrected forever. I've found snippets of the record here and there on youtube and one site that had a transferred version from vinyl to CD. But I wanted a great, digital representation of this amazing album and thank goodness somebody got up off their butt and made it happen.

Love this album. funky, cosmic, imaginative and downright cool. This album is afro.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soul Zodiac, October 26, 2010

Soul Zodiac
Spacy, free, almost cosmic.
As Miles Davis and his peers pushed jazz into electronic splendor. the brothers Adderley rehearsed the selections of Soul Zodiac into a nebulous set of free jams.
Employing studio guitarist Mike Deasy and the full force of Nat's quintet, Nat Adderley contacted disc jockey Richard Jones. Jones wrote and recited portions of
his zodiac broadcasts over compositions of Deasy, George Duke and the Adderleys. The end result--mostly due to Jones and the Adderleys' skillful editing--is this obscure, but magnificent masterpiece.

The jams capture true fusion jazz at its best and spaciest.

How do you improve on perfection ??? I purchased this recording eons ago on vinyl and it instantly became one of my MOST prized possessions !!! And that's not only because Taurus is highlighted in this recording :-)

This CD is MOST EXCELLENT !!! I will treasure it always !!! The sound quality is unsurpassed !!!

One suggestion, make sure the neighbors don't mind or on vacation ,,, then ,,, turn this mother WAY, WAY, WAY up and enjoy ,,, especially the Taurus cut ,,, ha,ha ,,, but there are many, many other outstanding cuts ,,, heck, all of them are GREAT !!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Now, this is cool, May 12, 2009

When you think of Cannonball Adderly, you think hard bop and soul jazz, but this is just what it says: the zodiac, put to music.

The music ranges from soul to electronic avantgaurde. There is a narrator, who takes you through all 12 signs, talking over Cannonball and company. The music is wide ranging and the concept has a very 60s charm. Just the type of thing for 3am, 1970 FM radio.

This was a time when you could sell just about any concept to a label. Some--Tommy-were brillant, and others--didn't the Four Seasons have a concept album, were just to dumb to be bad. This is not the best, but it is very good, both for musical and historical reasons.

Don't look for albums like this to be made again.
