5.0 out of 5 stars AWOL COULD GIVE A FAT EFF IF YOU THINK HE'S DOWN!!!, April 21, 2003

To any one who hasn't heard this album, or Awol's style at that: Listen to the soundclips of 2.'Rhythm' and 4.'Agony', if that doesn't show you the versatility of this release then go buy yer choice of the mainstream, post-Dre-dribble.
I am only writing this review to put some balance on the scales, cuz homey below (circumcised??)can't see true talent when its smackin em jawbone ta crackles!!! Not to mention the rumbling bass-lines and breaks Daddy Kev provides ALWAYS!!!! I'd buy this for the music alone, Awol's a hefty bonus.....
Matter o'fact--AWOL IS AN ILL MC WHO HAS A VISION BEYOND SOUNDING "TIGHT". To quote him: "Here I go again/Voicing opinions/Thunder isn't this loud/..I told em the world was ending/But they didn't believe me/I told em to trust me/And they tried to deceive me/Its gotta be greed."
And I think the underlying fact is that Awol COULD rap really fast and jumbled on every track(Kev IS a Jungle/Hiphop DJ)but I think Awol wants to make himself clear--> he wants you to know the words to his stuff, so you can sing it to yer buddies, he's trying to cure ya "Ignorance". He even admits he's "borderline genius/or a madman/I'm def, dumb and blind/but I do what I can." Abstract MCs can teach you a lot if you just relax, feel what they do, and don't expect every WHITE MC to be Eminem, White Dawg, Bubba Sparxx, and all them other FACTORY SPIN-OFFS!!!!!!! Clean out them Ears,Botty-bwoy!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars different, January 17, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Souldoubt (Audio CD)
His music isn't composed of a bunch of generic rap songs. He manages to mix 80s style rhymes with 90s style retro-beat to form music like no other. Highly recommend. Just don't expect wangsta rap here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cop it like it's hot, September 29, 2007

I've seen Awol One live two times and both were coincidental. The first time he was opening for Atmosphere. The second he was opening for Blackalicious. Between these two shows I bought this album. It wasn't his live performance that inspired me to buy this album however (even though he was tight and looked like a younger version of Joe Pesci). I heard the song 'Rhythym' in a ski video and at a party and had to have it. When I first bought this album that was the only song I really liked. Awol definitely has a unique style and not everyone digs it. His voice is different and his rhymes are different. This album grew on me quickly though and is now a regular in my cd player. A lot of times he doesn't even rhyme at all, but that's part of the beauty of his work. I love the abstract element of his raps. The production by Daddy Kev is dope too. Revolution and Worship are some of my favorites in the production deparment. You always hear people amping up Awol One, mainly the Visionaries and Shape-shifters crews. Believe the hype and if you are a true hip-hop fan you will llike this album.
