Phenomenal live C.D.!!, May 1, 2005
This review is from: Soulfully Live in the City of Angels (Audio CD)
This C.D. is a must for all fans of Glenn Hughes and/or rock music in general. The first things that hit you are the sheer quality of Glenn's voice and the quality of the musicians in the band behind him. Since his days with Trapeze, Glenn Hughes has been producing great music and he just keeps getting better (as can be attested by listening to his new album 'Soul Mover'). There is not a bad nor an average track on this wonderful double album (in fact, I have never come across a bad or average track on any Glenn Hughes album), but I do recommend the prospective buyer to listen to the track 'Written All Over Your Face' in which Glenn's voice soars. This live version (the original is to be found on 'Songs In The Key Of Rock') still gives me goose bumps when I listen to it and I can't begin to count how many times that I have played it. To anyone who is reading this who doesn't have 'Soulfully Live In The City Of Angels', in their collection, then I advise you most strongly to get it. You will not be disappointed; I promise!!! The voice of Glenn Hughes and his music continue to be an inspiration to me.

Glenn 'voice of rock' Hughes DVD a must for ROCK fans!, September 10, 2008
Glenn Hughes has always had one of the most original and greatest voices in rock but has mostly been ignored in the USA by critics and radio. Hughes is one of the classic hard rockers like UFO, Thin LIzzy, Y&T, AC/DC that are still around because of die hard fans of "real rock" not MTV or NU metal crap that is out there today. His music and songwriting is brilliant and of course 'the voice' like no other. This DVD has it all from Trapeze, Deep Purple and his solo material. The footage is not the greatest video but filmed in a small studio with limited fans it's raw and feels live! I did notice that some overdubbing must have been done because some singing and playing isn't on time but who cares! I think this is a must for any Hughes or "real rock" fan out there who wants great rock n roll.

Must have for Hughes Fans, November 20, 2007
It appears that there are several versions of this in release and the version that I originally purchased and reviewed has since disappeared so I thought I'd re-post for those who are wondering about this CD/DVD set. That original release had quite a lot of critisim, and some unfavorable reviews, which I really didn't understand, especially considering all the garbage that IS out there masquerading as concert DVDs. I bought what seems to be the same as this - the version that has 3 discs; 2 CDs and a DVD. The video is good, not great, and certainly not "filmed with a camera-phone". Though it does have a little too much "arty-farty" visuals for my taste. I've never been a fan of what I call stutter-step video (where it looks like a strobe is on the band) and would rather have straight-up video. Maybe that's what some others are critizing as well, but, to me, that's a small complaint. The audio, on the other hand, whether stereo or 5.1, is AWSOME. The band is great (the singer from Quiet Riot AND one of Santana's singers from the 70s do background vocals on some songs!!!) and Glenn's voice is as powerful as ever. And, as others mention, the Chili Peppers's drummer, Chad Smith, is outstanding!!! The only thing is, never having been a big Trapeze fan, I could have done with more Hughes solo songs and less Trapeze. And, from reading some reviews of the other versions, it seems that another major complaint is that it is filmed in a really small place and everyone's sitting on rugs on the floor. But heck......it's an L.A. FAN CLUB show!!!! It's supposed to be intimate!!! While I agree it's not the best place to film a DVD, it's still good and I would love to have been there!!! Overall, while I agree it could have been better, I really like it and would recommend it to ANY fan of Glenn Hughes. If it was cheaper I'd say don't believe the naysayers and check it out for yourself, but it is pretty pricey in these days of $12-15 DVDs!!
