Bad (meaning good) stuff!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Soulmates (Audio CD)
Unfortunately, I only recently learned about Mr. Dyson's solo recording career. When I visited Marimelj Entertainment Group's website to check out the latest happening's, I clicked on David's biosketch and realized he was the bass player I had experienced at two concerts of Me'shelle Ndegeocello in the last year. My impression after each of those concerts was "that guy on the bass was fierce." Once I realized David was the guy I had heard with Me'shelle, I knew I had to get the cd. And I was not disappointed. David displays some serious bass playing and melody making skills. I'm sure that as he matures, his skills and repertoire will become as reknown as two of my favorite bassists, Marcus Miller and Stanley Clarke. However, this cd deserves experiencing on its own merits. I so look forward to new recordings from this artist.

The Man can Play,
By A Customer

Say him at Blues Alley playing with Marcus Johnson and the whole time we were wondering who was this guy on the bass. He reminded me of Stanley Clark. Bottom line is that hey is unbelievable and it shows on the CD. Highly recommended.

Keeping it in the Pocket!,

The tone , approach, and rythms he displays in his music on this cd, makes me feel like I've known him all of my life. I'm a bass player and I love to pluck and thump. He feeds every area of my musical imagination with each song as they rumble through my system. Even the slow tracks are so sharp that I don't skip over any of them to listen to the next track. If your a serious bass player, then you must experience the true meaning of being one with your instrument...Daid Dyson's Soulmates is the first step towards that experience!

Soulful bass playing all the way through! Some songs are so funky you can't help but bob your head. Others are just mellow enough to lounge a read a good novel to. Worth buying - you'll play it all the time! Check out Lena's Lullabye.

David has a gift of transforming a bass into more than the background instrument its often catagorized to be. This album is cool and should definitely establish David as a pretty decent artist. Soulmates has a "Roy Ayers/Marcus Miller/Funk" feel and shows it when David pays homage to all who influenced his music in "Way Back When". Not a bad track on the album. Who is his A&R anyway? This album is way underplayed and underpromoted. Kudos to David and Marcus (Johnson) for the producing. Excellent and worthy of continuous airplay.

Inspired and inspiring music from this young man. He might be one of today's most promising bass players. He's heartful. Great man. People who like Marcus Miller or Stanley Clarke will like David Dyson.

Supurb!,

"Soulmates" is an absolutely supurb CD. David Dyson's incredible talent shines through on this one, his debut CD. His music captured many emotions when I first put it in the player. Bass players don't get the recognition that they deserve in the music industry but David's CD is sure to change that! I highly recommend this CD for those who appreciate what REAL music is all about! This one is off the hook!

David shines on debut CD,

As a bassist and owner of a good collection of bass cd's, I find Soulmates refreshing in that it is not just about bass, but about MUSIC and LIFE. David's bass always sounds fantastic, but the MUSIC tells a story. He also handles keyboards, vocals and some of the funkiest drum programing yet. Some may have heard David's mercilessly funky bass work with Me'Shell 'Ndegeocello. He continues to shine ever brighter with the first of hopefully many . A triumph for an exceptional musician and human being. Check this one out!!!
