4.0 out of 5 stars Good... If you're looking for a drama-filled steamy novel
I read this book after hearing how highly recommended it was. I think my hopes were high, but overall I'd call it pretty decent.

The first quarter of the book was pretty uneventful and slow. However, the book soon picked up and was twisting and turning and making me yell out loud, "oh no she didn't!". The erotic scenes were very well written, however I found it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Concept......Bad Editing or something
First of all, I'll start out positive. The whole concept and story line were pretty interesting. It was nothing like I've ever read before, very original. However there were many times during my read that I thought maybe I skipped over a part, but when I went back to reread it, I realized it wasn't me that missed something, it was just the way the book was written. I read this book after hearing how highly recommended it was. I think my hopes were high, but overall I'd call it pretty decent.

The first quarter of the book was pretty uneventful and slow. However, the book soon picked up and was twisting and turning and making me yell out loud, "oh no she didn't!". The erotic scenes were very well written, however I found it strange that right after an erotic chapter the author would then go into a chapter with a church service and religious poetry. Awkward transition, but I guess it shows that even church people have a little freak in 'em.

Overall this is definitely escape fiction. The situation is a bit far-fetched (everyone is rich and horny), in my opinion and I found myself getting angry at the main character Jada for being soooo naive. I couldn't feel sorry for her, I just wanted to know how much more messed up her dating life would get. It did give me an insight into how grown people can get caught up in childish immature relationship games.

If you buy this book, go ahead and buy Never Again Once More at the same time. It's the sequel and you'll need it since this book leaves you hanging at the end.

However there were many times during my read that I thought maybe I skipped over a part, but when I went back to reread it, I realized it wasn't me that missed something, it was just the way the book was written. That fact alone made the book a lot less than it could have been. If you're the type of reader that doesn't pay attention to details and depth, then you'll love this book. If you are the type of reader that likes character development and things that make sense, then it will be kind of disappointing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Extreme Soap Opera, April 17, 2003

I don't like these types of books, but I read it because of the great reviews it received. This book sends you on a rollercoaster ride of drama, drama, and more drama. The author does a great job of keeping you interested throughout. I found myself at some points not wanting to put it down even though I knew it was silly and unrealistic. The story and characters were dumb but the twists and surprises in the plot I could appreciate.

The characters were shallow and couldn't relate to any of them. I tried figuring out while reading the book what made Jada and Wellington soul mates? To me the concept of "soul mate" was messed up here. Two beautiful, rich, sexy, perfect people who got together because of looks doesn't make them soul mates. The antagonist, Melanie however was pretty crazy.

If you love a whole lot of drama and some romance thrown in, then pick up this book. I guarantee you'll enjoy it. Personally I felt like I was reading one of Tom Joyner's, "It's Your World" dramas... so I'm sticking to my mystery/thriller books.

1.0 out of 5 stars Where is the love?, October 15, 2005
This review is from: Soulmates Dissipate (Paperback)
Initially, I thought this book would tell a beautiful love story between a successful Black woman and Black man. I couldn't have been more disappointed. There are few, if any, examples of authentic loving relationships between any one in this book. I'm also disappointed that Wellington was so easily "seduced" by the "cherry-red" lipped Melanie. Why couldn't we see him fight tempting demons for the sake of his true love? Further, it is disappointing that their relationship primarily works because the sex is sooooooo good. If good sex was the only thing you needed to maintain a solid relationship the divorce rate in America wouldn't be so alarmingly high!

I'm also tired of the whole Black woman against Black woman battle. Why does this book perpetuate the myth that Black women are incappable of loving, trusting relationships. Why do we have to be so conniving and hateful towards one another?

P.S. How does Melanie find out from a home pregnancy test that she is pregnant with Wellington's baby in less than 48 hours? Don't u have to miss a period before you can use one of those? Morrison's story timeline was ABSURD to say the least!

This was my first Mary Morrison novel. This book was kind of ordinary. It was simply just "okay" to me. In my opinion, Wellington was kind of lame. Morrison didn't do a very good job of selling his character to me in the beginning. While she over-emphasized the point of him being financially stable, he lacked personality and maturity. He didn't come across as being "Mr. Wonderful", which is the point I think she was trying to make at first. He even came across as brainless and idiotic. As far as Diamond, initially Mary Morrison portrays Diamond as a strong woman. By the end of the book, she seems weak, and even pathetic at times. Anyway, towards the end, the book was all over the place. Everyone was upset with everyone, whether they had reason to be or not. The ending was a complete blur.

2.0 out of 5 stars Average read, November 14, 2006
This review is from: Soulmates Dissipate (Paperback)
I, like other readers thought the book started off slow. As a matter of fact it took me several days to get past the first section. Once it began though I thought it had good potential. With the introduction of Melanie and Cynthia, who both are trying to keep Wellington away from Jada, the story seemed to pick up. HOWEVER I was extremely disappointed with the story after Wellington was so EASILY seduced by Melanie. Without giving too much away the book starts off slow - you don't really feel a close connecton w/the characters...it picks up... then it just gets ridiculous and extremely soapoperaish. It would have been better if Wellington was stronger. It was like the Wellington we were introduced to was completely different to the Wellington in the mid and end of the book. Melanie's character was also unbelievable to me. When Melanie was introduced I thought she could be a believable man stealin skank but then she just got out of control way beyond manipulative ...it's like she was bi-polor and manic depressive to the extreme. The way her relationship took off w/ Wellington was yet anther unrealstic aspectof the novel. Overall, I felt like there were too many twists and turns that weren't portrayed on a true human relatable level.......in other words.......this could never happen!

2.0 out of 5 stars I Don't Get It, September 14, 2006
By
This review is from: Soulmates Dissipate (Paperback)
I was confused in the first couple of chapters, then the convoluted story about Wellington and Jazzmyne, the typos, and that ridiculous stuff at the end about finding your soulmate - I was not impressed with this story at all. Morrison seemed to be more concerned with the moments of intimacy, which were quite graphic to me. There is nothing new here, just the same old mumbo jumbo that everybody and their mother seems to be publishing these days. Maybe I'll read the follow-up books to see where this goes and if they get any better

3.0 out of 5 stars SLOW-SLOW-SLOW, July 3, 2006
This review is from: Soulmates Dissipate (Paperback)
Im not sure how I feel about this novel???

It started out entirely to slow and with underdeveloped characters popping up every second it was very easy to get lost in the story. Like other reviews I would have to agree that the plot was very UNREALISTIC. If Wellington loved Diamond aka Jada so much how come he let go so easily & was so easily manipulated by everyone in his life. I mean his character annoyed the hell out of me not to mention his evil moms Cynthia and mistress Melanie.

Honestly I only picked up a Mary B. Morrison novel because she was showcased on a TV1 documentary. I wouldn't recommend this novel to readers who enjoy juicy captivating story lines because this dose not have 1.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blind Sided By Love, September 28, 2005
This review is from: Soulmates Dissipate (Paperback)
Mary B. Morrison did a great job at pinpointing the blinders in relationships. Ignoring all warning signs, Jada allowed Melanie "the manipulative slut" to come right in and seduce both her and her man right out of their life's happiness. There's many intimate scenes but the me'nage a trios is by far the most stimulating. Wellington the bald, chocolate, tasty delight is extremely charming and strong in his financials but a dense, weakling of a man when it comes to his mother and his social life. This pleasurable read had me wanting a cigarette at times and I don't even smoke! I'm busting at the seams to read the sequel "Never Again Once More".
