Best O.A.R. Available,
By Chris (School) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Souls Aflame (Audio CD)
This is the best of O.A.R's 4 studio released albums. All of the songs contain their authentic sound with "So moved on" being the best ("City on down" and "i feel home" are not too far behind). If don't have any O.A.R. cd's, get this one first, but be sure to buy their other 3 studio albums and their awesome live album "Any Time Now." Also, if you get the chance, go see them live, it's quite an experience.

Jam Band craze,
By Sweet B (Wounderful South) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Souls Aflame (Audio CD)
I cannot even begin to tell you how many of my friends listen to OAR, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Phish, Ben Kweller, etc. I have to admit at first i was skeptical of the whole jam band music scene, but i had found a cd that one of my friends left over which just happend to be OAR. so of course out of curiousity i popped it in my cd player. And i ABSOLUTLY LOVED IT!!! Now i am all about the jam band craze. All of their cds are great to kick back and listen to with some friends, ridin down the road or perfect for listenin to at the beach and just relaxin and havin a great time. "I feel home", "hangover", "sail away", and "3am" are my favorite songs. ok, bottom line... GREAT BUY! especially for all of the Jam Band lovers out there.

There Coming Along,
By RockWillRiseAgain (Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Souls Aflame (Audio CD)
My brother intoduced me to these guys, at first i was in pop-radio music(about 3-4 years ago), I just recently got totally into Jam bands, and these guys know how to shine when it comes live. Studio they do well also, mixing high-barre-chord-surf-music and addin a sax for a little pinch of ska and it all comes together well. Songs such as City On Down,Wanderer, On Top Of The Cage,Night Shift are the jumpy-upbeat-its good to be alive songs. While Ran Away, So Moved On,I Feel Home, When Can I Go Home, are the sad ballad-jammed-out songs. This album really works and its well made for being an indie album but this one shows the bands roots by improvising mostly for this cd. I advice getting this one and then get The Wanderer, get Risen last since Risen is there over-produce-popish cd that they had to make for records companys. Last but not least pick up Any Time Now and experience that these guys are more then a 4 chords band but a sweet arse jam band. Check out Dispatch and Howie Day if your looking for something similiar. These guys are coming along soon you'll most likely be hearing them on the radio.

Must have for O.A.R. fans or someone looking to get into their music,

In my opinion, Soul's Aflame is O.A.R.'s best studio recorded album, not by far, but certainly their best.
Album kicks off with "City on Down", definitely a great warm up and intro to the album and makes you feel like you're 'part of the band'. The next track, "Untitled", further makes you feel like part of O.A.R.'s crew as the guys fill you in on some lady issues. Following that track is "So Moved On", one of the more chill songs on the album that makes you want to kick back and relax. But don't chill out for too long, as "Night Shift" is up next, a more high energy song that is an instant memory-maker (or reminder). "Ran Away To The Top of the World Today" is a real chill morning-after song that is a great follow up to "Night Shift". "On Top of the Cage" is a light-hearted anti-conformity song that leads perfectly into the best 4 tracks of the album, in my opinion, "The Wanderer", "To Zion Goes I", "Hey Girl" (this is the original version of the song which was remade for O.A.R.'s album "IN BETWEEN NOW AND THEN", which, by the way, is also an O.A.R. must-have), and "I Feel Home". If you're looking for a band to call your own and feel like you're right along side them drinking and having a ball of life, then definitely pick up O.A.R.

If you have heard one song from this band, I promise you will like the rest of the CD. I do not know a single person who does not like this band after playing one song. I can not wait to see this band live!

Everything's Aflame,
This review is from: Souls Aflame (Audio CD)
I was introduced to OAR during a car ride my sophomore year of high school and ever since then my interest in the band has skyrocketed. I have been to several of their shows, and not only do they put on amazing performances and really get the crowd into it, but they also have an uncanny knack for representing their performances well in the studio. This was the first album I owned so several of the songs on there really take me back a few years. For me OAR is all about the lyrics---each song reminds me of a specific place or a specific person. This CD is a must-have in any collection of decent music and I'd recommened it for seasoned and new OAR fans alike. Don't miss out...

The Perfect Follow-Up to The Wanderer,
By kev (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews

O.A.R.'s first two albums I think mark the first era of the band. The vocals are more raw, the band was younger and without a record label, and the lyrics were simpler. I think every album O.A.R. has put out is fantastic in its own way, and Soul's Aflame is full of awesome tracks. City on Down and Untitled are classics at concerts, and Ran Away to the Top of the World & On Top the Cage are great songs too. Hey Girl makes its first appearance here, a staple of the band. This is a must-have for any fan and a great introduction to old school O.A.R. This album has more of a reggae/ska feel than Risen and In Between Now and Then. I like it all, and you will too.

Early O.A.R. still sounds great,
This review is from: Souls Aflame (Audio CD)
It becomes apparent the longer you listen to them that O.A.R. knows what their crowd wants, and it the early stuff. Any of their live albums will have covers of songs from this album and the others like it. That's no reason you shouldn't buy it, but keep in mind that you've probably heard these songs before.
