Best Sounding Reissue of this title,
By A Customer
This review is from: Soultrane (Audio CD)
This title has been reissued on CD and LP many times, XRCD, DCC Gold CD, Fantasy Gold CD and many LP versions too. The Original Master Recording guys did an excellent job on this one. The tone is to die for and in my humble opinion smokes all the others in sound quality and overall resloution. Overall the presentation is smooth and silky yet has great depth and overall detail. If you are looking to find out what John Coltrane is about or you are an established fan this is a must buy. This disc will transport you to another place! Very highly recommended!

Granted, I'm tired of seeing yet another reissue of the old Fantasy war horse, but credit where its due - this SACD smokes alll previous incarnations. . . Well maybe not a mint copy original vinyl with properly set up gear. Otherwise, if you don't have anny version of this album... Get this! Coltrane sounds like he's ALIVE again and in your sitting room. If you have it, try somethhing else from Mobile Fidelity's growing catalog. Their Modern Cool album by new comer Patrica Barber is very chill. Dig?

The best of all the re-issues!,

Let's face it this is one of Coltrane's best albums when he was younger. Needless to say this record has been reissued 6-7 times on LP and CD. This is the first time it has been issued on SACD and the Original Master Recording engineers did a wonderful job. Even the sound on the CD layer is so much better than all the other versions that I own of this disc whether it be LPs or CDs. I don not have the special SACD player yet, but the sound on the regular CD layer of this Orignal Master is soooo buttery smooth. Coltranes sax just oozes out of the speakers. Totally worth the extra money! If you want great Coltrane this is the one to get.

The best version yet,
This review is from: Soultrane (Audio CD)
As others have pointed out, this is most certainly the best CD version of this album yet. It comes very close to the original vinyl as well and shows what a high resolution digital downsampling can do for CD. I have not heard the SACD layer but my experience with other SACD titles leads me to guess that this will eclipse the vinyl and become the closest facsimile of the original master tape. Trane in the room with you- marvelous.

This is, hands down, one of the best SACD's I've ever heard. When reviewers say it sounds like Trane's in the room with you, they're not just blowing smoke- he might as well be sitting next to you on the couch! I still think Mobile Fidelity's prices are a little steep, but if any disc could be considered worth the price tag, this is it.
