Book Description

August 27, 2000
This unique and creative collectable cookbook opens the kitchens of my ancestral roots of Creole culture from African slavery from the many French & Irish owned plantaions in South Louisiana. This cookbook brims with mouth-watering recipes and heartwarming family folklore as well as the broken patois' dialect. These recipes are spiced with historical commentary as well as simmering contraversies of Creole culture. Raving recipes entitled "African Rhythm Drummettes", Slave Quarters Crusty French Bread", "Gris-Gris Greens", as well as tribute titled recipes from ancestors.

Soumas Heritage Creole Cookbook does a respected honor to the rich and "bitter-sweet" history of African Creole forebearors with the connection of the West African and Caribbean culinary traditons which propel Creole cuisine. Blending historical impacts to the culinary arts and music and an understanding of folklore medicine as well as a historical content of the Soumas name.

Soumas Heritage Creole Cookbook is indeed a "must-have" for all cookbook enthusiest as well as the collector of cultural cooking. Not only does this cookbook have a good insight into the multi-ethnic history of Creole Louisiana....It will make you laugh with a warm heart...and it serves everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Wait Another Moment - Order This Cookbook NOW!, October 1, 2000
This review is from: Soumas Heritage Creole Cookbook (Paperback)
You haven't tried anything until you've tried "Creole Crescent City Rolls"! These appetizers will definitely be the talk of the party! They are fast, easy and delicious. My children (6 & 3 years if age) even enjoy the combination of spinach, cheese, sausage and other mouth watering ingredients stuffed into crescent rolls. If you make under 3 dozen, you haven't made enough! This cookbook is my gift of choice this year! Well done, Ms. Soumas.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have Cookbook!!!!, January 19, 2002

I love cucumbers, and the recipe "A Cool & Crazy Creole Cucumber" is delicious. I had to make myself stop eating it before I turned into a cucumber! I also love the "Creole Red Beans-n-Rice and Pope's Pralines." Plus the history is wonderful. It is great that Ms. Soumas and her family was able to keep up with the family history throughout the generations. Maybe this cookbook will inspire other African-American families to cherish their family history and traditional family recipes. Just the history alone is worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Red Beans and Rice, October 1, 2000

Just made the Red Beans and Rice. I didn't know that I could make something from a recipe and it would taste REALLY GOOD. The instructions were clear and concise. I'm ready to try and experiment with other items. I am also going to order some more books to send out as presents. I think my friends will really enjoy this.

Thanks,
