Product Description

Keep your dog or cat off the couch, away from the kitchen table or out of an entire room with the Sound Barrier Indoor Sonic Fence. This indoor electronic pet barrier for dogs and cats uses audible sound, not shock, to keep your pet out of restricted areas. The receiver unit may be placed on table tops, by doors, beds, couches, trash cans or anywhere you consider off limits to pets. The lightweight electronic collar sends an ultrasonic signal that triggers a loud sonic blast at the receiver unit to make your pet scat! Dogs and cats are easily trained to stay away. This ultrasonic system is superior to cheaper infrared devices because it allows people to come and go without triggering the alarm. The sonic alarm is triggered only by your pet's individual electronic transmitting collar. Range is fully adjustable from 1 foot up to 35 feet. System includes one receiver module and one pet collar transmitter. Transmitter comes with lithium battery. Standard 9 volt battery required for receiver (not included). Add an unlimited number of extra collars (High Tech Pet model MS-4) to control multiple pets. Add extra receivers (High Tech Pet model SBR-1) to protect multiple areas. Collar also operates our Power Pet electronic pet doors. Receiver is also operated by the Humane Contain model RX-10 electronic fence collar.

Setting up this device was slightly mind-boggling.

The problem seems to be that the reader needs to "see" the device attached to the collar.

This one uses an annoying beeping that sounds EXACTLY like our smoke detector going off.

It works....most of the time. The problem seems to be that the reader needs to "see" the device attached to the collar. If the device is pointed sideways on the collar then the reader wont go off.

The good news is that with our two dogs (both yorkies) the device only had to go off on them about twice....and that was by us leading them to the device on a leash. After that...they are so terrified of the noise (sounds like a home smoke detector) that they tend not to go near the device when they see it. So even if the device doesn't go off when it should...it still has the effect that the dogs steer clear even if the device doesn't actuate when it should.

The above is my review after two weeks...now here is the sad update 6 mos later. I bought two units and they both have quit working completely. Both test buttons, on collar and transmitter work, however neither unit recognizes the collars nor will either emit any sound.

Also I have discovered that the batteries sold by this company are a compete rip off. They have taken a cheap standard battery CR2430 and reversed its polarity by gluing contacts to the opposite side of battery. They then call this a B3V1A battery...but guess what? They are the only company who sells this battery and they totally rip you off in doing so. What they have done serves no useful purpose other than to sell you their modified batteries at price gouging rates. Check it out...the markings of the original CR2430 are sill visible thought their glued on contact....best advice I can offer...DO NOT BUY... THIS IS A WASTE OF MONEY!!

This product is not for containing an animal like a fence, but for scaring them away from a certain spot. I am using it to keep my chronic poop eater dog away from the cat litter boxes. Works like a charm! I like that it is just noise, not a painful shock, and also the loud alarm lets me know when he's trying, so I can come reinforce the warning. I've been trying for 10 years to keep him out of the litter boxes, and now he won't go near them after only a few alarms!

I have buyer's remorse. The device requires direct line of sight and doesn't always work.

The most infuriating part is the battery. The collar battery died after 2 months, then I popped open the collar to discover their proprietary battery technology. They took a standard CR2430 battery which costs less than $1, and they charge you $10. They've went out of their way.. to make this battery more complex then it needs to be (they reverse the polarity, and have paper shims/solder points, and they put their stupid sticker on top), so they can get $10 from you every 2 months. This is basically a $5 a month surcharge you pay to Sound Barrier.

They could have used a standard battery enclosure for a CR2430, and the cost of that enclosure would be pennies at volume. The cost of manually processing these proprietary batteries is probably higher.. but they upsell it for $10. This is very dishonest, it's basically vendor lockin on the battery. I feel pretty cheated, it's border line fraud imho.

It works just fine. The sensitivity is adjustable, from "Don't get anywhere frickin near this, Damnit!" to "Come on over and sniff the funny colored box, cat!" It makes a really annoying audible beep when it senses the collar, and continues to beep until the collar goes away.

Note: This will NOT train your cat on its own. You still have to punish the cat when it goes off, to give the cat the idea that the noise is "bad" and not just "annoying". However, it does tell you when the cat is trying to get somewhere you don't want him, so you can punish as you see fit, without having to stare at whatever it is you are trying to keep the cat away from.

I purchased this sonic collar to shoo my kitty away from the doggie door. She is an indoor cat, but i found her shivering on the outside of the doggie door once. She had pushed out, but wasn't sure how to get back inside. I put the sonic colar on her own collar, then placed the alarm at the doggie door and set alarm at 2ft range. I watched as she walked toward the door, the alarm screamed and she took off. With her it only took one time, she avoids that area for now.

I gave the product 4 stars instead of 5 because, I noticed when I took the collar off and laid it on a table she would walk by and instantly find the collar. I tried hiding collar but she immediatley found it. I held collar to my ear and discovered it has an audible constant buzz. With a cat's sensitive hearing I personally feel it would be cruel to leave te collar around their neck all the time. So, my plan is to let her wear it ocassionally when i see she needs a little reinfrcement training.

When the so-called piercing alarm went off, my dog stood there, tilted her head and looked at me as though to say, "Whaaas up?" I couldn't ship it back fast enough...can't someone make a product that is so high a pitch that HUMANS can't be annoyed by it but it keeps dogs away? PLEASE...
