Loved it but the sound quality isn't optimal.,

5 stars for substance; 3 stars for sound. This CD is fantastic. If you are interested in exposing your baby to foreign language sounds in the critical period (0-6 months) to promote foreign language learning later in life, this is the best product I have found on the market. And believe me, I have looked. It includes 7 different languages. However, the sound is not the best. The English is perfect but the rest of the language sections require you to fuss with the volume on your stereo. The other languages are much less audible and require you to turn up the volume during these sections. It isn't fun to turn up the volume for the 1st CD and startle your baby when the 2nd CD starts playing in English at a much higher volume and then back to hardly audible without a volume adjustment. However, if you're willing to do that, this CD is for you. (I thought I had a defective CD, but the replacement CD came with the same problem.)

I can't say enough good things about this program - agree that sound quality isn't optional, need to turn the volume way up for this cd then down again for the music ones, but don't mind - it's such a great way to introduce babies to sounds and different languages! Now, our baby is only 3 months old so we don't know its long-term effects/benefits, if any, but i try to do one of the language chapters every day or two, and I repeat as many of the words as I can after the speaker, so our baby can watch and listen to me making those sounds, and he really listens to me and is fascinated. I don't think he would just listen to the speaker on the CD - but to listen to his mother, that's another story. I realize my accent won't be half as good as the speaker on the CD but he sees me making sounds I don't usually make. It's really cool and I wish there were more CD's out there like this. You can start right from near birth with the sounds.

OK, I bought these on cassette tape in 1995 for my then new born. My family all made fun of me for playing these tapes everyday for her, saying she was gonna speak chinese to me first. Well she is 16 now and her best grade in school is in language arts, A's in every language class she takes. She does say it is so easy and she understands the languages but cant speak them as well as she wants. When she was a todler though i played a series of foreign language sing a long tapes that sang the songs in both foreign and english, to this day I can still sing Jamme Le Plage, lol. I am buying these new versions for my grandbaby (not the 16 y/o's).
