Soothing sounds for your home,
By "rebelb" (Venice, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sound Chi (Audio CD)
Steven Halpern and Jami Lin's "Sound Chi: Feng Shui Music to Heal the Home and Spirit" aims to "create a comforting background ambience for your home" and to enhance "focus and motivation in the office." The music, which is clear and minimalist with a new-age feel, utilizes the precepts of feng shui to this end. Elements and the seasons, which are reflected in the titles and inspire the compositions, are instrumental in feng shui planning. Bird sounds in a couple of the tracks, such as an owl complemented by a harp in "Creation: Wood/Spring", play off the idea that attracting birds will encourage the flow of good chi. The result is a calming yet uplifting series of sounds and tunes that lend to a pleasant environment. Playing this soothing CD on a rainy morning may encourage you to climb back into bed! But be warned: an irritating intro to feng shui by author Jami Lin opens the first track. Skip over it. The text is well-suited for liner notes to the disc insert, but her chipper delivery is less than professional, and is discordant with the mood of the work.

Very nice, very peaceful--the sounds of nature intertwined with the music of Steven Halpern. This CD has 15 tracks.
Track 1--It begins with a brief visualization by Jami Lin. Track 2--The gentle keys of piano plus flute, intertwined with birds singing. It makes you feel as though you are alone in nature, floating on a hammock, listening to all the beautiful sounds around you. The birds sing throughout this track. Track 3--More piano music, but a slight melody, intertwined with harp and a loon. I now see myself sitting in a small rowboat, in the very early morning. The lake is covered with a heavy mist. (a brief track) Track 4--sustained chords and some light notes on top of the chords--organ-type sounding. No nature sounds. Just a floating sound that gradually intensifies in volume. Maybe like an OBE, floating above while looking below to see what's going on. Track 5--deeper piano sounds, more like a song Track 6--harp type sound, probably on electronic keyboard--very pretty Track 7--sustained notes with tinkling Track 8--sounds like an angelic choir along with the gentle electronic piano sounds--very ethereal sounding. Track 9--very peaceful, short electronic chords that sound something like bells, with long sustained chords in the background--also very ethereal sounding. Track 10--deeper piano playing--tinkling keys and chords--more structured, somewhat like a song Track 11--light and airy flute with electronic keyboard sounds Track 12--lower pitch (oboe?) with electronic keyboard sounds Track 13--light electronic tinkling, kind of up and down the scale Track 14--piano tinkling--more like a song, with maybe a violin in the background. Track 15--sustained ethereal sounding sounds, very nice and very peaceful. Almost sounds like an angelic choir in the background. Makes me feel like I am ascending to heaven, pause and see the beauty, look across the clouds, look through the golden gate and see the angels gathering. Very peaceful CD and the slow, sustained note type of thing that leaves its vibration within you. I would highly recommend it for meditation or alternate healing modalities. You could also us it simply to drift off to dreamland and it would likely be very useful to anyone who has trouble sleeping. It may well be all electronic keyboard and is very beautiful. The insert says that Halpern began his research in 1971, exploring sound and healing using biofeedback, Kirlian photography, and live blood analysis. We hear a few ending comments by Jami Lin at the end. On the energy side--I felt very peaceful after listening. I had to stop and sit with the energy for about 5 minutes before moving on. It had to process and settle into my 6th chakra. It left a very nice and very calming feeling.
