Vibraphonist Steve Nelson is great!,

"Sound-Effect" released on High Note Records marks a very high-spirited recording session of veteran jazz musicians: Nelson on vibes, Mulgrew Miller on piano, Peter Washington on bass, and Lewis Nash on drums. What a lineup! Wow, these guys swing hard!Nelson's previous effort "Fuller Nelson" would have been somewhat better if he had a bass player. Here Nelson wised up and anchored Peter Washington in on the low end. A very wise move, as Washington, grounds the band. Steve Nelson is a great vibraphonist, though, I feel that he's somewhat underrated compared to Bobby Hutcherson, Gary Burton, Stefon Harris or Joe Locke, which is a shame, because he's just as inventive, melodic, and swinging as they are. He's been around for a long time, but still shows that he's evolving and growing by every session. I highly recommend this album if you like jazz vibraphone/piano quartets or just enjoy good jazz played by masters of their craft.

Sound Effect,

If you fell like dancin' git up! My first encounter of Steve Nelson's music was Lewis Nash's "Rhythm Is My Business" recorded in 1989. Fast forward to Dave Holland's, Not for Nothin', Prime Directive, and Extended Play. Steve's melody, harmony and rhythm surely stimulate during these chaotic times. The American tradition of Jazz continues.Longevity proves the worthiness of music. Stick around if you can. It's a shame that we don't see and hear these musicians on Cable TV. This is a Great set. I'm staying for the second one. You the Night and the Music is beyond category. Great playing Lewis. Play as if there were no tomorrow. Mulgrew Miller and Peter Washington are masters of the groove. Play on. Many thanks to Steve Nelson, Bobby Hutcherson, Stephon Harris, Joe Locke and many more vibraphonists's for taking the music into the 21st century with a touch of yesterday's class.Darrell Westminster, MD 2008

Great graphics of atoms and electrons. It shows the chemistry of emotions very well. Interesting take on how to apply Quantum Theory to our everyday life in the choices we make.
