4.0 out of 5 stars tasty fun
When you go to the store and purchase yourself a pack of sugary bubble gum, you, undoubtedly will leave with certain expectations. You want soft, pink, give-me-a-cavity kind of satisfaction. Dressy Bessy is that gum, and they are delicious. Their classic pop is so catchy it's almost annoying. Almost. Now, if you want something more substantial than candy-coated rock, keep...

3.0 out of 5 stars It gets better with more listening
Still not spectacular but nonetheless, better than I thought it was at first. If they can tighten up their rhythms and find another vocalist to harmonize with, they have the potential to be excellent, right now, they're merely good.

For a good dose of fun, check out that's why

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of a genre - So Much More than Twee, May 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Sound Go Round (Audio CD)
The first thing that grabbed me about this album was the seeming innocuous sweetness cut with some pretty biting wit and a guitar style that has one foot in Peter Buck's jangle and another foot in Thurston Moore/Lee Reanaldo's skronk. Dressy Bessy's John Hill is an underrated guitar player indeed!

That with a tight rhythm section and Tammy Ealom's deceptively sweet vocals, make for a record that sounds like it could come from any time, but at the same time feels very much about right now.

While it may be to pass off Dressy Bessy as mindless fun, there is an intensity lurking underneath their music that makes this album much deeper than it seems upon an initial listen. Buy this record heear this great band set the Twee genre on its ear.

I had never heard of DressyBessy. If I had not been in the record store on Tuesday, I still never would have. I was shopping and I heard this AWESOME CD playing. I asked the cashier what the name of this album was.

I bought it immediately. Just an awesome album with some very funny harmonies and vocals. Very off-kilter all around which makes this unique. I will now be sure to buy DressyBessy's other albums. Don't miss out on this one! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars How Twee can you be?, March 8, 2002

A great follow up from this Kindercore band. The usual Jangly guitars, off key-n'-kilter vocals, with a 60's bubblegum-via-Velvets influence. Perhaps a bit too clever for it's own good sometimes - but, well that's twee for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cool sound but not the kind of album you feel bonded to as ..., July 17, 2006

This album has a cool sound and all, but it`s not the kind of album you feel too strongly about as the years pass by. My favorite song from Dressy Bessy is to be found at the soundtrack from the Power Puff Girls "Heroes and Vilains".
