They've Worked Well for Us,
By Skylar Hamilton Burris "Skylar" (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sound N Lights Monitor with Dual Receivers (Baby Product)
I guess it may depend where you live, but we didn't get much feedback or static at all from this product, and the reception is crystal clear. The only time I got static was when I had it on the wrong channel. (If you're getting static, try the other channel. Also, you don't need to have it up on full volume to hear; full volume may be leading to feedback.)
This is a very affordable product and has served us well. I like that there are two listening monitors and that you can put batteries in them-that enables me to take them outside and do yard work during my baby's naptime. I don't use monitors at night (our room is close enough to hear her crying); I only use them during naptime when I am working in other rooms of the house or outside. These have functioned very well for that purpose, and they are less expensive than most monitors.

Batteries for the monitor?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sound N Lights Monitor with Dual Receivers (Baby Product)
I like this Monitor system except that they only have a place for batteries in the Receivers...living in a rual area where we sometimes lose power in the middle of the night, it would be nice to be able to put batteries in the monitor itself. Otherwise, I've had no problems with reception and the "light system" comes in handy too.

Clarity is Great,

I bought this monitor 3 weeks ago for my daughter who is 7 months old. We used the Angel Care for her when she was smaller but now she is all over the crib so the motion sensor would go off all the time. My 2 year old son has the Sony 9 channel which is the best monitor ever but doesn't come with dual receivers so I bought this one for my daughter and it works great. I have no problem with static or interferance. I keep the sound level on low and can hear her slightest sounds. Also the lights come in handy when vaccuming or when my husband has the TV blasting. I would recommend this monitor for the dual receivers but Sony has the best single out there.

No Problems Yet,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sound N Lights Monitor with Dual Receivers (Baby Product)
I was a little wary about purchasing another electronic device by Fisher-Price, They don't make the best stuff lately,(...). I really can't complain though. Mine makes a low "white noise" hum but that may get better if I change the channel. The noise isn't loud enough to bother me and actually is nice because I can be sure the receiver is on without looking at it. It has a very good reception thruout my two story home and basement and also the surrounding yard. It does pick up some unneccessary stuff such as traffic from outside when the window is open but I like the fact that I can hear the slightest sound on it. The lights are also a big help. I haven't found any problems with deterioration or static. I would reccommend this product to any parent.

The static is terrible!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sound N Lights Monitor with Dual Receivers (Baby Product)
This monitor does the job...I can even hear my baby breathing if I turn it up loud enough. It's cheap and works. But, my two major complaints are that 1. the batteries die in a matter of a couple hours. All the devices can be plugged in, but that isn't the most convenient option all the time. And, 2. the static it gives off is incredibly annoying. Not so much static if the devices are being used with battery power, but as soon as you plug them in, forget it. We've tried different channels, different locations in the house (away from cordless phones, microwaves, anything plugged in) and nothing makes is better. We've lived with it for 10 months now and my husband is forcing to buy another one, no matter what it costs. Just buy another brand!

Static, static, and more static,
By
This review is from: Sound N Lights Monitor with Dual Receivers (Baby Product)
I have twin babies, and need all the help I can get from gadgets because it is more than twice the work sometimes. But the complaints I have on this monitor would apply to anyone with a baby--singleton or more!
I am not a fan of these monitors, and bought a much cheaper replacement monitor after reading that it did not have static (and it doesn't). The Safety First monitor Crystal Clear Nursery Monitor is so much better; buy it instead. The lights were sort of cool-- it was neat to be able to look over and see the different intensities of sounds in the dark. But the static grew worse after a few weeks; I don't know why. At first, it only got really static-y when the battery was low, but then it would have intense bursts (where all the lights lit up on the monitor) and I couldn't even hear the music of their mobile, let alone any of their softer noises (like spitting up). I couldn't re-position the monitor to make the static better, and it would get better while I was holding it only. (Like I want to hold a monitor all night long). Also-- the other monitor I have now has a Low Battery indicator. This one does not-- and once, the battery ran out in the middle of the night while I was sleeping with no warning. (I had lost the AC adaptor and couldn't find a place to purchase a new one, nor could I figure out how to contact Fisher Price to order another). I have lots of other great Fisher Price products that are lifesavers; this one is not one of them. It could be that location has something to do with this, but how will you know your home is one of the spots where there is some kind of interference that causes the static? Buy the other monitor that works fine anywhere, and use the money you save on something else for baby. :)

Gets the job done, but not perfect,
By Amazon shopper (Pennsylvania, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sound N Lights Monitor with Dual Receivers (Baby Product)
I have owned this monitor for four months. It is a great value for the price, but it is not perfect. I like that it has lights so I can SEE every sound my baby makes. This is very helpful when I have the receiver in a room with a TV or washing machine on and I can't hear well. It is very sensitive to sound, even picking up noise that is made in another room. Dual receivers are a must, I keep one downstairs and have the other in the kitchen or bedroom as needed. The reason I gave this product only 3 stars is the static. There is barely any static when it is used cordless with batteries, however the batteries don't last for that long so I prefer to have it plugged in. Once I plug the receiver in to run off of electricity the static starts. The receiver is at it's worst when it is near electronic equipment (like my TV). I have come to find this to be EXTREMELY ANNOYING. I actually had to walk around the room plugging it in to different outlets trying to find the area with the least static. In it's defense, it is my understanding that most baby monitors on the market today do have problems with static/interference, so if you don't mind working around this issue it is a good buy.

I was ready to return this until I read consumer reports,
By Nancy Dark (Colorado Springs, CO) - See all my reviews

I've tried several monitors and was ready to return this one as well b/c of the awful static sound on each one. Then I read this on CR and decided to live with it or change my phone:
Mind the frequency. None of the baby monitors Consumer Reports tested was immune from static. The closer your monitor's frequency is to that of another device, such as a cordless phone, the more likely you'll hear static or cross talk. You may reduce interference if your monitor lets you switch to a different channel within its frequency band. Consider your phone. Choose a monitor that operates in a different frequency band than your cordless phone. Most newer cordless phones are either 2.4 gigahertz or 900 megahertz. If you have a 900 MHz cordless phone and a 900 MHz monitor, they can interfere with each other. Hope this helped! Also, quick side note. I was given a fisher price monitor that is a few years old from a friend and it was the best. No static. Sadly, the wires loosened (it is many years old) I am going to look for a slightly used model online, its model number is 1550.

Mediocre Quality at a cheap price.,
By Meryl Walker "Mez" (West Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sound N Lights Monitor with Dual Receivers (Baby Product)
This was the second monitor we purchased. We thought we had to replace an older version of the same thing. We are still using the older one (now 5 yrs old) and return this "Sounds N Light" version.
This one looked fancy but everywhere we placed it had static. All settings/channels/volume still gave a static hiss. We have alot of wireless items in the house so that may have been affecting it. However the old one (also made by Fisher Price) doesnt have this problem. The static wasnt a problem with the baby, they never heard it. But trying to sleep next to it all night long would just drive us nuts. |
