Thank you David - you have changed my life! Forget the excuse that you are over 45 and it's too late to change your body! I have been following David's plan for one month, and have dropped 4% body fat, and no longer watch the scale to follow my weight loss. My clothes tell the truth! David's sincerity and desire to change your attitude about exercise and eating is apparent in every chapter. And the recipes are delicious and easy! Chapter 5 is the key - and much of it has nothing to do with weight loss! I really believe that much of my success is due to grasping the importance of sound thinking - usually missing in fitness books. What are my goals, what kind of inner strength do I possess, what is my passion?? You told me "I know you're going to succeed," and you were right!!! THANK YOU!!!

Great program,

I have to say the other reviewers are correct about this plan and its amazing results. One thing I noticed in other reviews is that they really don't mention how hard you have to work at this program. Of course changing your body in a healthy way SHOULD take a lot of hard work. The virtual elimination of refined carbs is very difficult for a lot of people's lifestyles and eating habits. I decided to work on that BEFORE starting the program and ended up losing 15 lbs. and considerable body fat with my regular workout routine. Three weeks into the program I was already at a point I never thought my body would achieve. Before reading this book, I was in a constant cycle of overtraining and then nursing injuries. This program taught me to moderate and to strengthen my weak areas. This program really works if YOU are willing to work.

I've been interested in fitness most of my life, but had recently entered a stage of burnout. I rarely showed my face at the gym, and my fitness schedule sarted to become something "I'd get back to tomorrow."That is, until I picked up Sound Mind, Sound Body. Kirsch's advice about how to keep myself motivated really worked. I added more variety to my program, and now find myself exercising everyday--without feeling forced. It comes naturally. Sound Mind, Sound Body creates a wellness formula by breaking it into 5 components: getting started, goal-setting, eating, mental/emotional strategies, and social support. The formula really works! His fitness tips just in themselves are phenomenal, showing you how to optimize your body type with the most effective exercises.

This book is quality and informative. He offers sound, easy to follow advice. No gimmicks- it's spelled out for you in everyday terms ("reader friendly"). It's has detailed info on how to follow the plan, what to do/not do, fitness plans that are right for your body type, nutrition, etc.My only complaint is that he doesn't write about any strength training exercises using weight machines at the gym. He just shows at-home exercises (which are also great and detailed). But some people like using machines sometimes. I've read a lot of fitness/nutrition books and it's the same stuff, too complicated, or not interesting. But this is different. If you follow the plan, you'll see results!

I'm a 36-year old mother of 2, and have been trying for the last few years to find a workout routine that would fit into my busy schedule. Before I had kids, I went to the gym religiously for step aerobics and weight training. I really missed being in shape and being toned. I started doing yoga, and then pilates. When I came across David's book on the internet, it caught my attention. I've been doing David's workout for 5 months now, and I feel great! I've received many compliments from family and friends on how healthy and in shape I look. I love David's workout because I can do it anywhere - I recently took a pair of dumbbells and the book with me on vacation. I also love the fact that the exercises are designed for everyone, no matter what body type/shape you are. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for the path towards physical, emotional and spiritual wellness.

I only finished this book yesterday so I am just starting my 6-week program, but what I love about this book is David's sincere approach to helping people change, not only their bodies, but their lives. David's book has inspired me to stop making excuses for why I eat the way I do or why I skip my workouts and be honest with myself about my lifestyle. He makes me want to live a healthy, positive, inspiring life like his. But if you really just want to get in shape, this book gives you EVERY detail you need to do so. He even breaks down the workouts for 5 different body types so it's not difficult to understand. I have purchased several different diet and/or exercise books over the years and now I can throw them all away. David's book is my new bible.

A Life Changer - The Man and the Program,

In a nutshell, my life has been full of negative changes. I live near Ground Zero. I lost 2 friends and of course, my job. Joyously, I became pregant soon after and gave birth on Christmas Day to Ava but had a dangerous blood pressure spike. I was scared, since I had been always been fit. To combat my nerves (and adding to this, I lost my dog, my favorite uncle and was contacted by the birth mother I had never seen) I stayed in my kitchen preparing lasagne, baked ziti, layer cakes, lemon poppy seed muffins, etc. I became a carb addict. And then, WHAM!!! Post Partum Depression hit like a brick wall. I became unable to care for myself and considered "ending it". Enter David's book, which I had lying around. I just started the program and am already looking great. I was a size four but am now a ten. I have rid myself of "Carb Face"...I feel stronger and happier. I refuse to take medication for this, opting for David's program. It truly changes your life and the most important part is the inner reflection and realization that we are all God's creatures. He writes with expertise, toughness, tenderness, knowledge and love. I cannot say enough about a man who has transformed my life -- I appreciate all of my gifts now!

Excellent Book!,

When I first came across this book on Amazon, I sort of dismissed it as another "celebrity training book." However, on a whim, I purchased it and I am ever so glad I did! First of all, this book is a gorgeous, high quality book with excellent photographs of the strength exercises, etc. The typography is good and the layout is good. Second, beginner or not, this book will get you thinking about exercise is new ways. I have been working out for quite a while, but had gotten bored with my routine. This book reminded me of other exercises that can be done to help me tone up and strengthen. David is right, you really have to mix up the routine. My legs definitely feel it today! Third, his eating plan and spiritual plan are worth reading. Again, he points out different ways to make good food choices and deal with life's little problems. Overall, I recommend this book. It is pretty enough to keep out on a coffee table and intelligent enough to actually use!

"Soundly" is a wonderful way to look at things - wholistic and positive without being draconian or extreme (or wimpy, for that matter). The book makes a great case for holding yourself to a higher standard (without knocking yourself for being less than perfect). Unlike just about every other diet/fitness/self-improvement book I've ever read, it's simultaneously reassuring and inspiring. It really was motivating to read - and not in that panic-stricken, last-gasp-for-salvation sort of way. He manages to give directions/plans that are both concrete and flexible - and even entertaining at the same time. All without the merest hint of self-righteousness or fanaticism. Not to mention - I've gotten the most amazing results so quickly.

David's program is unique because he gives you all the tools, information and motivation you need to design your own workout. No set number of reps, no set in stone program. He gives great suggestions for making exercise enjoyable and they work! This book is about getting your best body and it delivers! He is a gentle motivator and emphasizes the spiritual aspect which is the key to the programs success. This is the first program I have followed that I have loved. Did I mention the absolutely delicious recipes? I've never eaten this well before or felt so good. I have been a follower of pilates, the Zone and Ann Louise Gittleman but they all lacked something for me. This combines the mental stimulation of pilates with the punch of a real workout. It is sensible, delicious eating that isn't as restrictive as Ann Louises programs yet you get the same results ( I did). And it's real- he says when you are in a bind, a Big Mac or spaghetti bolognese is the best option when you are on the go and don't have a lot to choose from and I love him for saying that! After reading that, I knew this was a plan that I could live with. This, like any lifestyle change, takes commitment but if you are a beginner- this is the best place to start. |
