The first thing I need to acknowledge is that I usually hate Dance/ so called Electronic music, primarily for terribly repetitive lyrics and music that only approaches a good idea after a lot of mixed drinks. Still, when I heard "North American Scum" with it's sarcastic/ironic lyrics and catchy melodies, I was hooked. Yet it would be several more months before I would get the rest of the album. Hearing them live on the World Café playing "All My Friends" and other tracks made me reconsider, like "Get Innocuous!" and "Us V Them" along with Amazon's bargain price. The witty lyrics and catchy music make this an outstanding listen. This is the perfect album to drive around with as well as work out to and yes, even dance to.

Got me into electronic,
This review is from: Sound Of Silver (MP3 Download)
I was one of those classic rock guys that thought the vast majority of new music sucked. Then one of my friends forced me to consume LCD Soundsystem and I realized that the new music revolution is here and it involves people with laptops. The first listen might be a little awkward, but before you know it, you're dancing on the street, laughing at lyrics that are too real and finding yourself becoming... an electronic music fan.
Check out the "Bunch of Stuff" remixes. They break it wide open.

More focused LCD (4.5 stars),

The second LCD full length is at once a more daring record, but also a more focused record. The most rewarding thing about the first album was the inclusion of all LCD's previous vinyl releases collected on the bonus disc. The self titled debut itself was strong in places, but unfocused, and not much linked the various styles together. Here, on the new record, LCD is able to create a record that wanders through various styles and yet somehow manages to still work as a larger whole. Murphy's vocals are alot stronger, and the sound is overall alot fuller without being overdone. The slower songs are better, and the digital madness more infectious than ever. Overall, it is much more focused and rewarding effort from LCD. Highly recommended for fans of the first album and newcomers alike.

I get lucky sometimes.
Lucinda Williams showed up in New Yorker magazine. I bought the album based on the review in which she quoted Dylan. It turned out to be one of my favorite albums for the next decade. The Joshua Tree was another: U2 was in the soundtrack for Blown Away, and I kept that cd in my player for the next four years. Only rarely did it leave. My point, of course, is that I found all of these albums by chance that I'd like to think wasn't really a 'chance' occurance--it was as though I was meant to discover this music... LCD Soundsystem was another such case. I found them through a CD club that I failed to participate in properly and as such, only received one CD. (I was supposed to send all the members a disc and just never got around to it.) Why I like it: this is one of those albums that doesn't really grab you on the first listen. Instead, it sneaks up on you and works best after about the tenth listen. Other albums upon which this occurred (for me) include Radiohead's OK Computer, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, and Beck's Odelay. These, of course, are some of my favorites: they give the listener something to chew on, something to think about, something to reflect upon, and ultimately, something to enjoy on a level much greater than that of, say, Justin Beiber. There is a time and a place for Justin Beiber. But, ultimately, some of us want to listen to adult music... There is a real pathos in the lyrics. Granted, there is a thick layer of irony surrounding everything about this album, and I suspect that we don't get to take anything too seriously, but at the same time, the irony is not defensive, self-defensive, or otherwise. In other words, I'm not sure where to engage this album, and that ambiguity makes things interesting and fun. In the end, this is a great album, and I recommend it for all.

Here is the best electronic album from 07, and definitely LCD's strongest yet. While most of the cd is full of fun/quirky melodies and infectious beats, the highlight of the album - "Someone Great" - is subdued and melancholy. Possibly the best song of 07. Also, don't get the impression that this is a straight electronic album (The Field this aint), but this is definitely a rock album too. Party rock. Except for "Someone Great"... Just do yourself a favor and buy it.
Also recommend Battles' 'Mirrored'

I bought this album on a whim after hearing North American Scum on the radio, and fell in love with it ever since! Basically, if you enjoy indie/alternative/techno/experimental music, this album doesn't disappoint.
What's great is that each song has it's own unique feeling. You've got your dance-driven tracks like Get Innocuous, Us V Them, and more mellow tracks like Someone Great, and the ballad-like New York I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down. Even after my first listening, I could distinguish songs apart, and it didn't all "blend together". I'm not familiar with anything off of LCD Soundsystem's debut album, but after listening to Sound of Silver, I'm looking into buying that too. At only $6.00 for the MP3 Album download, it's well worth the money! Best tracks: Get Innocuous!, Time To Get Away, North American Scum, Us V Them, Watch the Tapes, Sound of Silver If you fall in love with this album like I did, I would also recommend LCD Soundsystem's A Bunch of Stuff EP, which contains great remixes of the songs on here.

A fun and entertaining album, especially if you like 80s electronic pop bands. Many of the songs sound like tribute pieces to various bands of that era (Kraftwerk, Human League, New Order, even the B-52s), and I can't imagine this album existing without those influences. One star off for that, but four stars on for the catchiness of the cuts, the variety of sonic styles, and the witty lyrics.
