Decent electronic compilation, February 2, 1999

Compilations of this sort are a dime a dozen; look, for example, at the Digital Empire, MTV AMP, and Urbal Beats albums. Sound of Revolution is a uniformly good compliation that ranks with the afforementioned other similar albums. There are many high points: Roni Size's "Soul Power", Kid Loops' reworking of Eric B. & Rakim's "Microphone Fiend", Dub Pistols' "Anarchy", Goldie & Rob's "The Shadow", which boasts an almost eerie computerized voice, and Speedy J's "Fill 17", the closing track, with its sense of ambience. My only complaint is Nicolette's track; I loved her on Massive Attack's "Protection" album, but for some reason, I'm not feeling her contribution, "All Day". I can appreciate the jungle/soul vibe, but here it's not working for me. A small reservation on an otherwise wonderful album. Highly recommended.
