5.0 out of 5 stars Best earbud headphones I've seen for the money!, February 10, 2008
By
This review is from: Red Sound-Squared "SPORT" Headphone Earbuds Earphones w/ 2 Earhook Sizes and Earphone Case - Great Value!
I have been using the Sound-Squared Sport model earbuds for a couple of weeks with my Sansa E280 with Rockbox firmware. This is the best set of earbud-type headphones I've used for the price. There are others as good, but not at this price point.

Let me start with comfort. I have had numerous pairs of earbuds from Phillips, Sony, JVC, etc. I specifically chose the sport model from Sound Squared because reviews on other sites said they don't fall out. Since I work out alot, that was important to me. The other reviewers were right; these buds stay in place, period. The over the ear band is comfortable, enough that I can wear them for hours at a time at work. They also come with 3 different silicone bud sizes for a wide variety of ear sizes and shapes. The cord length is also nice and long, measuring 5 feet from tip to buds.

Next I'll move onto sound. When I first used the buds, there was way too much bass, even for my standards because I like plenty of bass. Then I realized that it was actually my equalizer settings, and not the buds. As I stated, I have Rockbox loaded on my Sansa, so I have access to awesome equalizer settings. What I was doing was trying to compensate for my poor previous earbuds by turning the bass way up, and when I plugged these in whoa! too much bass! I adjusted the level of the bass and wow, these buds are awesome sounding! Crisp highs, deep lows, and distortion free. These aren't rated as being noise cancelling, but the silicon tips do a great job of cancelling out ambient noise (such as my loud treadmill).

Last is value. $30.00 for this pair of earbuds is ridiculous. It wasn't a lot to drop on a pair of buds from a company I've never heard of before, so I gave them a try. I was seriously surprised at the quality for price point. I had to rate these buds a 5 based on the criteria importatnt to me: Comfort, Sound, and Value. The packaging was a little lite, as they came in a plastic ziploc bag inside of a bubble pack envelope, but I enjoyed not having to open a blister pack! I would highly suggest these buds to anybody!

5.0 out of 5 stars My hero!, December 29, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Red Sound-Squared "SPORT" Headphone Earbuds Earphones w/ 2 Earhook Sizes and Earphone Case - Great Value!
As any husband soon realizes, marriage is a relentless and patently unfair state of wifely over-expectations, so the potential for banishment to the proverbial doghouse is a constant specter of fear much like the dropping of the Big One during the Cold War. Therefore, scoring the infrequent point or two is both an occasion for a deep sigh of relief and one not to be undervalued.

Now, my wife visits the gym more often than is reasonable. While there, she revs up the elliptical machine like one whose hair is on fire and running towards the nearest water spigot. The resulting image is positively ferocious: arms and legs piston in a blur, the head is thrust forward and jerks side-to-side, the face is set in a grimace of determination last seen on an Ironman triathlete, and the audio leads to the iPod swing wildly as telephone wires in a windy maelstrom. It's positively intimidating. (My imperturbable work-out on the elliptical is regally placid by comparison; I barely break a sweat as I attend to the Home and Garden Channel on the overhead monitor.)

The point I'm trying to make here concerns the spouse's earphones rendered problematic by the strain. If using foam earbuds, they absorb perspiration that blocks sound. If made of plastic, they fall from her ears causing a break in stride as she shoves them back into place with a few choice words. Thus, when cautiously asked what she wanted for Christmas, she threw down the gauntlet: "Earphones that stay put and don't get blocked with unladylike sweat. Don't screw it up."

Doing an Amazon search, I found several alternatives, all of which had ratings spanning the stellar spectrum of 1 to 5. However, the product listing for the SOUND-SQUARED SPORT EARPHONES, on brief inspection, seemed to attract the fewest whiners relative to the number of completely satisfied users. Therefore, I purchased a pair and placed it, along with the diamond tiara, in the glove box of the luxury, hybrid sedan beribboned and parked under the 50-foot Christmas tree. Well, maybe the last two gifts were part of the wife's wishful thinking; she can't have everything, though I dare not say so.

On December 26th, it was off to the gym. (If the facility was truly dedicated to fitness, it would've been open Christmas Day. What a scam!) While I observed well out of harm's way, the wife jabbed the "on" button of the music player fitted with the new earphones, set the latter in place much like an F-16 pilot dons a helmet, kick-started the elliptical, and took off at her usual demented pace.

Forty-five minutes later, I watched with some unease as she dismounted and strode purposefully with narrowed eyes over to my vantage point on the stair-stepper.

"You know", she pronounced breathlessly, "These are just the ticket. They don't slip off no matter what. They're comfortable, and I can hear to perfection. My hero! I'll even treat you to one of those revolting double-cheeseburgers."

My relief was almost palpable; life in good grace, however fleeting, was achieved. I'm good for another twenty-four hours, minimum.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE these little guys, May 8, 2008

This is the first review I've ever written. I felt compelled to tell others what I think about these earbuds. I have tried several different kinds in the past but have always had to go back to bulky head phones because I couldn't find any to fit my tiny ear canals. These fit perfect and stay on while exercising, gardening, sleeping, whatever. I'm sold!!!
