5.0 out of 5 stars funky acid jazz
In my opinion, there are only two bands who make excellent acid jazz music: the brand new heavies (who are from england) and UFO (who are from japan). This album is simply excellent. It's funky, groovy and quite sophisticated. You can't prevent from dancing around when you hear it and at the same time, it's enough elaborated to be appealing for a demanding audience...

3.0 out of 5 stars Very mellow...
I bought this after all I heard about UFO and definately wasn't disapointed. UFO has a sound that is pretty unplaceable although I would say if you are into this then listen to Manu Chau, some of the less weird stuff by Sukia ('Dream machine' being quite close), Coldcut, and The Herbaliser. I especially reccomend the last two. UFO's album, while at times a tad...

As I was saying, also check out the brand new heavies' releases (especially shelter and brother sister or the best of, "trunk funk")

5.0 out of 5 stars One word: Doopsylalolic, July 7, 1998

This review is from: No Sound Is Too Taboo (Audio CD)
How can you possibly define the music of a group like UFO? Is it jazz? Is it rock? Is it funk? Is it R&B? The answer is yes, yes, yes, yes! UFO is a little bit of everything and so is this CD. From the groovy feat of United Future Airlines to the blusy Magic Wand of Love, all the way to the otherworldly funk of Doopsylalolic, No Sound Too Taboo is exactly what it says; anything and everything you could want that bursts free of any constraining genre labels. The beats are powerful, the lyrics brilliant and the case is cool too! No wonder Verve snatched these guys up. Thanks goodness for the university radio station for playing this disc at 1:00am and introducing UFO to this now eternal fan.

I especially reccomend the last two. UFO's album, while at times a tad mediocre, is uplifting and cool all the way through. Stand out tracks are 'United Future Airlines' and 'Doopsyllolic' which is veeery funky. They are a group to watch out for, they are destined for big things. However, if you are new to UFO then I would reccomend their eponymous debut album, very funky with fantastic samples.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lazy day acid-jazz..., January 5, 2002
This review is from: No Sound Is Too Taboo (Audio CD)
UFO's creatively bizarre mixing of styles produced some of the best mid 90's funky, acid-jazz and "No Sounds too Taboo" is arguably their best album. Despite the typically odd arrangements that permeate most of its tracks - a mixture of off-the-wall vocals, weird instrumentation and "lounge-lizard" backbeats - there's nothing too challenging here other than a set of ingenious, well produced workouts that are ideally suited for a lazy afternoon's listening. Sounds negative?... well making genuinely interesting laid-back music is no easy task and on "Stolen Moments", "Mistress of Dance" and most of the other tracks on this album UFO hit the button perfectly. Arty, clever and fun... the cover says it all !

2.0 out of 5 stars Background music for mall shopping, December 3, 1998
By A Customer

I believed the hype and found this heaven knows how. No, wait, I actually ordered it. Ugh - stupid me. Anyway, imagine my disappointment when upon listening I discovered I had purchased the perfect soundtrack for buying some cute new outfits at The Limited. Coming soon to a mall near you.

I liked many of the songs on this album. But The Track I lked most was "Kissing your Father". It created such joy in my soul while i listened to the bliss of trumpets that made my heart pound.
