Buyer Beware, March 29, 1999

BASE is not Carl Cox's best work. A few years ago, I saw Cox at a club in NYC and went out the next day and bought FACT2 -- a dancing/clubbing/chilling/relaxing masterpiece. No matter what kind of mood you're in it will bring you to a groovy place. It's still one of my favorites. BASE has very little in common with FACT2. It feels hastily put together, almost like Cox couldn't decide what kind of mood he wanted. Lots of mediocre dance tracks here, nothing you would particularly want to listen to outside of a tremendously loud club, the only place you could possibly appreciate this album (and even then maybe not). If you loved FACT2, do yourself a favor and save your money. Chances are you're going to be disappointed.

This CD gives a good impression of Cox his preferences, this includes very excellent rythmes and tunes.

Carl Cox is phat!, March 24, 1999
This review is from: Sound of Ultimate B.A.S.E. (Continuous DJ Mix) (Audio CD)
I had the honor of seeing Carl Cox spinning a few weeks ago at one of his few stateside appearances. It was one of the best parties I have ever been to. Carl Cox, spinning on three turntables for over three hours, had elevated the party into the stratosphere and I have no doubt in my mind that he is the number one DJ in the world. I definately recommend this album as well as any other of Carl Cox's collections. Be on the look out for "Phuture 2000" as well. URB described this album best, "The mixing is flawless and the music is driving, but never speedcore; hypnotic, but not tedious; accesible, but yet totally cutting edge. Carl Cox reigns supreme."
