Editorial Reviews

Review

"Responding to the increasingly frequent contention that 'sound' itself is a category of contemporary art practice, this rewarding collection of voices illuminates the sometimes distinct, but more often overlapping zones of the auditory, the musical, and the sonic, from Luigi Russolo's Art of Noises to our heterogeneous present. Fascinating and useful."--Marina Rosenfeld , artist and composer, co-chair, Music/Sound, Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts, Bard College

This was a really great book that included several different aspects of sound and sound theory. I read this book cover to cover taking notes and was always inspired and curious by the things I was reading and learning. This is a great book to use while you are in the process of creating sound art because it helps keep you in the right frame of mind by allowing you to focus on sound theory and also by letting you consider works created by other sound artists. The small article format is nice because it helps to break up all of the concepts so that you can thoroughly focus on each one.

This book is simply amazing. The texts cover a wide range of theoretical thoughts in regard to sound, its perception, use in art etc. I recommend this book to everyone interested in the theory of sound both in the everyday and in an art context. The selection of authors covers more or less everyone relevant in the field of sound. Great book, I love it!
