Great Pickett!,
By Oliver Penn (New York City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Sound Of Wilson Pickett (Audio CD)
I have been fortunate to have seen Wilson Pickett, "The Wicked One," on several occasions where I witnessed one of the great stage performers of all time. This album is a particular favorite of mine, not only because Wilson is in top form, but because of the background singing by the Sweet Inspirations! Yes, Cissy Houston and her girls are carrying on behind Mr. Pickett. I believe this was before they had a name.
One of the best shows I've ever seen was a James Brown concert at the Palladeum in New York, with Wilson Pickett as The Godfather's special guest. Well, the two had a screaming contest to beat all others: Wilson won. NOBODY IN SOUL MUSIC COULD SCREAM LIKE PICKETT. Give it up!

Wilson Pickett in classic form,
By Habatwa V. Mweene (Lusaka, Zambia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Sound Of Wilson Pickett (Audio CD)
This is my favourite album by Wilson Pickett. Pickett, of course, needs no introduction to any follower of soul music. No discussion of classic soul can be complete without mentioning him. He epitomized the philosophy of true soul music: let every fibre of your emotion show in the music. His great voice was unforgettable, and if he is still alive today soldiering on in obscurity, it is only because in black music, great voices seem to be a dime a dozen. If this album contained only "I Found a Love, Part I and II", it would be worth buying. The particular version of this song on this album is one of the highlights of soul music. In the early days of CDs it was difficult to get classic soul and it is just great that it is now available.

You've got to love him. They don't make good music like this any more. This is REAL music, not the stuff they mass produce and call music these days.
