It's OK, but not really worth the cost,

This review is from: SoundGate 7-button remote for iPod and Zune CORE System Packages gives you an easy way to control your iPod, iPhone, Touch, Nano, Classic, or ZUNE while keeping it safely stored. (Electronics)
I got this remote to work with the Soundgate Zune package in my 05 F150. I wanted a remote that was small and unobtrusive so that the Zune could remain out of sight in my vehicle, since the display and sound are routed through my Pioneer receiver (AVH-P4000DVD). Although it does work as advertised, was effortless to install, and I have had no problems with it, I am not convinced that this was worth the money.
The controls are counter-intuitive and take quite a bit of getting used to - a simple touch pad and 2-button interface like the Zune uses would be much easier to use in my opinion. For instance, using the center button should work like pressing the center of the Zune pad. Instead, the center button works only as a Pause/Play button. I considered mounting the Zune somewhere in my vehicle with the dock and using the zune wireless remote; in hindsight that would have been a more elegant solution. Finish and quality seem acceptable, but not notable.

I use this remote with my SoundGate for my Zune mp3 player. Sofar it's been working great for me. However, my friend bought one for himself and when moving the wire at the remote his will stop working. Beaware that this could happen to you. I would give more stars, but this is kinda cheaply made.

Center and TopRight Buttons swapped,

It appears Soundgate almost got this right. Most buttons on the remote appear to match the functionality of the Zune player, except that the functions of the remote Center and and TopRight are swapped compared to the Zune player.
I think I'll try to crack open the remote and cut-and-jump the button circuits inside to correct.

I also installed it along with:
SoundGate ZNCBLPAK lets you Connect, Charge, and Play your ZUNE thru your Car Stereo or Radio's AUX 3.5mm Jack. Please read my review. anyway, on the the device itself, I agree whole heartedly with the other reviewer and I think Soundgate could have done a better job. Why have a "universal" unit for two items (IPOD & ZUNE) that operate completely differently...in terms of the "button" operation? Zune really needs its own remote that operates LIKE THE DEVICE, I did the install yesterday and I am still "on the fence" whether I am going to keep/use the thing it really is counter-intuitive, I guess I will get used to it. I am sorely tempted to ask my installers to just forego the Zune pack & Remote and just plug it the AV cable directly into the device, that way I can control it from the Zune Device?...aside from the charging feature I wouldn't really lose much?...*sigh* I will give it some time |
