I only gave 4 stars because getting that seal is a little elusive.

Since they are in-ear it's a bit of a pain to clean the speaker area (even after removing the comfort fit piece).

I have already owned two sets, and was happy to purchase a third (the headphones are that good).

Basically I love these things.

I was surprised to see reviews where they fell apart. I have not had that experience after one year. They sound kind of tinny unless you are careful to insert them far enough into your ear to get a seal. Once I do that the sound with my iPod Nano (which I loaded ONLY with .wave files - FAR superior to MP-3 though they take up a lot of space) that sound quality is really amazing. I attend a lot of real unamplified concerts in real concert halls. These get me as close to that kind of sound as is possible with mere stereo. (Multi-channel SACDs are more than twice as good as stereo in that regard -IMHO - but you cannot hear the multi channel program through headphones)

I really messed up a couple weeks ago and sent iPod and headphones through the washing machine. The nano was ruined. I had to buy a new one. The PL-50s seem to have suffered NO damage.

I wonder what happened to quality control between the time I bought mine and the other reviewers bought theirs. I only gave 4 stars because getting that seal is a little elusive. When I walk for exercise, the seal keeps deteriorating and I have to stop and reinsert the buds. Maybe I need to experiment with more of the different sizes supplied.

These monitors are well designed ergonomically and sound really good (now that I've switched over to Shure medium "olive" tips and learned how to fit them to my ears. For the cost these monitors sound amazing! I got these for use inside my motorcycle helmet and these are about as low profile as and noise suppressing in ear monitor or bud can be. I'm glad I took the gamble and ordered these instead of the pricier Shure monitors. The tips for this are smaller internal diameter than the Standard ear buds so your favorite tips will most likely not fit. These will sound "thin" if you do not have a good seal in your ear canal. This takes a little practice so be patient.

Let me be clear - I love these headphones. I have already owned two sets, and was happy to purchase a third (the headphones are that good).
The product arrived on time, but the box that the headphones were packed in looked used. It had some sort of saran wrap on the front, various scuffs, and a missing piece of tape. When I tried out the headphones, I found that the right earpiece did not make any sound unless I played with the wire. Needless to say, I was disappointed, and I will be returning this product.

*Edit* Amazon allowed me to return the broken headphones and gave me a new set. Consider me happy :)

Let me qualify this review by stating that the sound is 4.5 stars (i.e. magical and gets one hooked) but it is virtually unachievable using the tips provided with the earphones. Of the 7 tips in the package, not one worked for me.

I eventually ended up using a pair of silicon Etymotic 4S eartips put on in reverse. This helped achieve what I can describe as a perfect seal. The bass came through beautifully at this point. I am enjoying the sound with these tips.

Soundmagic need to do some serious rework on the earphone tips provided as these are utter rubbish i.e. not worth selling with this heaphone. It is almost as if the tips were an afterthought and ordered from the cheapest manufacturer there is.
I would recommend that some more thought needs to go in the design of the earphone flange as it appears to be about 0.5 cm too short and prevents the earphones from being inserted correctly. If this flaw can be rectified, these earphones are easily the best value for money earphones going around.

I had already been using the PL30 and loved them. I had read reviews on the PL50 and at fifty quid a pop, I thought there were a tad expensive. I used this guy:

And they cost me only just under twenty seven pound. The crispness of the noise is fab, I have the JVC noise reducing headphones which at half price £70.00, but I prefer these, the quality is just immense. I would suggest you buy at this price. fantastic product.
