Soundbombing is a must have for any true Hip-Hop head.,

This is really what I like to call the "Rawkus coming out party". If you've heard DJ Honda and was feeling it at all, this is the next level. Showcasing alot of what the Rawkus fam have to offer. From Double S to L-Fudge to Cyclops 4000, lyrics hit you from every angle, non-stop. The shining light of this project were Black Star(Mos Def and Talib Kweli). "Soundbombing" really is where these kids spread they're wings and took me wit' em. It's not coincidence that one if not both of their hands are on the phattest tracks this disc has to offer. Evil Dee's mix is butta, blending track like a painter with oils. Indelible M.C. "Fire In Which You Burn" is just plain ill, on some Middle East madness. Shabaam's "1001 Arabian Nights" is hot also with lyrics to go. "Fortified Live" is a piano driven groove that you have to get amped off of featuring Black Star and Mr.Man of the slept-on group Bush Babees. The next exceptional work would have to be the Black Star freestyle. The beat is stright disgusting, and Talib and Mos definitely do it justice. The final 5 songs alone are enough to buy this album by themselves. Mos Def shows supreme skill with finesse on "If You Can Huh" one of the two best tracks on the album, blessed by Shawn J. Period. Mos follows up that classic with a party rocker called "Universal Magnetic", guaranteed to get you up out your sleep. The next track, "What If" is the bomb, ripped by Rawkus All-Stars such as Mike Zoot, Kweli, and Double S. "My Crown" by Black Attack is nice also and not too much of a letdown from the previous gem. The song that shares the title of "Best Song" in my eyes ends this masterpiece. "2000 Seasons" is one of the phattest combonations of lyrics and beat I've ever set my ears on. This song made the Black Star album the most anticipated "underground" CD since the 1st Smif-n-Wessun. DJ Hi-Tek is a force to be dealt with. Please don't sleep. In all, this is the definition of hip-hop. Bottom line. If you call yourself a head and don't have this album, your status should be questioned.....

Nice representation from the underground...,

Evil D was on the mix, come on kick it!Here's one of Rawkus's earlier projects featuring dope MCing, professional DJing, and an entourage of talent that the commercialized media / money hungry "MCs" (excuse that usage) are unable to show... This record is such a treat because it contains some of Talib Kweli's and Mos Def's oldest tracks: "Fortified Live" , "If You Can Uhh" , "Universal Magnetic" , "2000 Seasons" , and a nice freestyle by both. It also gives the lesser known Rawkus MCs a chance to shine along: Company Flow, Black Attack, Sabaam Saadeeq, RA Rugged Man, Sir Melenik... Like always the underground mcs are always impressive, takin their stabs at commercialized rappers: RA Rugged Man especially, but he's the only one I wasn't crazy for on the CD, but he's ok...and obviously Company Flow, Mos & Talib, and Saadeeq were excellent which i expected ahead of time, but that Black Attack track "My Crown" my reaction was like - oh sh** that was sweet... And Soundbombing Vol 2 was even better...and i'm still awaiting a probably impressive 3.

DJ Evil D, good skills, wrong style for this album,
This review is from: Soundbombing (Audio CD)
This album came out at a great time. Reflection Eternal's 2000 Seasons was sure to be a hot (HOT) track, along with their other recently released vinyl single Fortified Live. Co FLow, Mos Def, all of these tracks are definitive of this snippet of time in hiphop. God I had so much anticipation for this album, and roughtly 12 years later I still look at the track list and sigh.
What I couldn't stand about this album is DJ Evil D. Way too many times during the enjoyment of this pretty down-tempo album you get "screeeech scratch scratch" from a record followed by "EVIL D IZ ONNN THA MIXX!" by a shrill, high-pitched voice. Ahh! It's never fitting. He shouts as if he's trying to make a party album. I would still have bought this album to have a good digital copy of RE's 2000 Seasons, but again, the most tranquil, beautiful track on the album gets assaulted within the first 20 seconds with an agonizing "EEEVIL D's ONN THA MIIIX!! WUT!!" Soundbombing II stepped up the production, expanded the list of MC's, and got 2 "world famous" DJ's who know how to do it. Sorry Evil D, your mixing is fine, just know when to keep your self-promotion to yourself. Your name's on the cover, there's no need to open your mouth.
