I got this today from Amazon - and when I opened it, I was shocked at how small it was. I mean, even with the photos showing the size with a device on it, it looks SOOOOO much smaller when you get the box, and even more diminutive when you open it up. Even before I unboxed it, I was already set to get the return going with Amazon. I was all set for no bass, tinny, crappy sound.

Got it unboxed, propped it on the arm of my leather couch, plugged it into the wall across from it, and threw my nano in the dock. Powered it on with the remote and hit play.

A change of underwear later, and having hopped randomly through most of the songs on my nano, I was still picking my jaw up off of the floor.

Then I played with my 2011 model Macbook Pro (no instructions for the MacBooks on the quick start guide but it's easy to figure out - turn on bluetooth on the laptop, enable it on the dock, then pair it - no code even needed. Afterwards, go to sound settings on the computer and change output from laptop speakers to the "Sound Platform Stereo" option now visible). Had a few hiccups the first 10 seconds where it would start for a sec then stop and revert to my onboard speakers, but after disabling and enabling the bluetooth on the MBP it was solid after that.

Bass and Treble go from -3 to +3. Bass it makes a difference, Treble, not nearly as much - most of my songs I couldn't tell much difference between the various settings for Treble. The "U-Cubed" sound effect disables the bass/treble settings altogether. Normally I don't like the processing that speakers and such do to try to "expand" the sound. I have the higher end Samsung sound bar for my 55" 3DTV, and never use the effects there because it just makes things worse. Usually that's the results I've seen.

I love the look and size of this dock, and it's definitely loud, but there is distortion and noise, even at lower volumes. I kept it for a few days and played around with it a bit to see if it would get better, but nothing seemed to help. The bass and treble functions didn't seem to do much, but there is a noticeable difference with the UQ3 setting. The bluetooth pairs easily and though a bit disappointed with the plastic casing, from a distance you don't notice it. This dock has great features and can fill a room. Not being able to see the display is unsettling at first, but then you get used to it. Once I realized that my television remote interferes with the Sound Freaq, though, I definitely had to return it. It's a minor inconvenience, but coupled with the clarity issue, I had to part with it. Perhaps the next generation will be exactly what I'm looking for.

I took a chance and purchased the SFQ-01 based on reviews I had read, some good, some not so good. I originally was looking at the Bose Sound Dock II but thought it a bit over priced even though I do own a few other Bose products which I have am very happy with. I wanted to replace my Boston Acoustics FM receiver in our kitchen with a Dock so I could listen to live streaming of CBC public radio. We have an open concept kitchen/living room with high cathedral ceilings and a regular radio sound just gets lost. The BA was good but the Sound Freaq SFQ system is much better. Music or voice is crystal clear and the tone is excellent regardless of the volume. Wherever you are it feels like the speakers are beside you. It beats Boston Acoustics and Bose hands down, especially when you consider the price. The app needs lots of work and hopefully that will be done soon, but overall good Job Soundfreaq Sound Platform for iPad and Smart Mobiles.

Currently available at Target stores on sale through 2/26 (see weekly ad) for 149. Just ordered the red anyway - sexy. More detailed review to follow.

Got it, unpacked it, and started playing with it. It gives you a one page 'quick set-up guide' - if you want the owners manual, you need to download it. I don't like this, it should be provided with the device. None-the-less, it does not take away from the quality or convenience of the product. I was able to set some FM presets, pair my T-mobile MyTouch 4g to it, and stream music via Bluetooth within 2 minutes of plugging in. I'm very much a sound snob, and with the sea of garbage iPod speaker docks out there, this is a step above. It's never going to be mistaken for a Bose SoundDock, but it sounds nice. Pleasant. Your not going to get noise complaints from neighbors, but then that isn't what this is for. For a bedroom nightstand - perfect. Office, kitchen, small garage, ...panic room, all great applications.

I bought this to listen to waves or rain music to help put me to sleep. For me, low volume performance was a big consideration. My kids both have the Kicker iK150 units, which sound really great, but the low volume performance sucks. "1" is the lowest and it is way to loud to go to sleep to on the Kicker. Soundfreaq has excellent graduation at very low levels, albeit with some amp hiss - but overall quite acceptable. I sync my Android 2.2 phone thru Salling MediaSync with select iTunes playlists, stream my music to the SoundFreaq, set my phone alarm through the DeskDock app, and use the phone timer to shut it off in an hour - all while charging so the battery isn't killed.

Nicely packaged inside the box too. The cardboard forms keep it nicely insulated from impact.
