I purchased the Sound Platform 2 as a birthday gift for an iphone 5 user. Most reviews I had read stated that this unit had little to no bass, but I had confidence in the unit after hearing the original sound platform on display at various stores.

After testing the Sound Platform 2 I can happily say that I do not have any buyer's remorse. The speaker sounds great, offering sparkling highs and crisp mids. This speaker system gave me the goosebumps I feel when I test out expensive speaker docks at stores. Sure, the bass isn't the focus of the design (and I certainly don't recommend getting the unit if you ONLY listen to hip-hop or other bass centered music), but the bass still makes a strong appearance that is amazing for a couple of 3-inch drivers. Those listeners that claim they don't hear any bass in the unit must be spoiled by subwoofers in their car.

I don't own any docks because I don't have an iPhone, but I'd say the set's sound is fairly comparable to my Beats Studio headphones. The Sound Platform 2 creates that same "3d sound" that the headphones create so well using crisp, clear audio. The SP2 does a better job than the Beats at instrument separation, giving the illusion that each element of a song has it's own dedicated speaker. The beats have an advantage in bass when listening to hip-hop music, but the bass was very similar in the two devices when I played music by Blink-182, Jason Mraz, Zach Brown band, and Sublime. The SP2 created a perfect balance of sound in genres outside of hiphop and EDM.

Getting the music started was easy, too. Pairing through bluetooth was quick and reliable with my HTC One X and the iPhone 5.

So, I'm giving this four stars for a few specific reasons:

Pro side:
1. The Bluetooth pairing literally could not be easier.
2. The unit feels good and looks good.
3. Both the UQ3 for single units is amazing and the DSS feature for two paired units is flawless.

Con side:
1. The quality of the sound, while not bad, leaves something be desired.

Some explanation:
Aside from the little pop-out tray, which acts as a holster for an iPod or iPad, feeling a bit flimsy, these units look and feel sturdy and pleasing. Aesthetically my only complaint is the lack of a white option, like some of Soundfreaq's other stuff.

The DSS is awesome. Your very first attempt might be a bit wonky feeling, but after you've got them set up and placed where you like, every occurrence of pairing or getting them into DSS mode is a breeze.

The sound quality... Well, I don't really have a lot to compare it to, insomuch as other Bluetooth or wireless speaker units. I'm comparing it to my computer speakers, my car speakers, and my studio monitors. These sound good, if a bit mid-y (and therefore maybe even a bit muddy), the bass is almost non-existent (the drivers are tiny, though), and the upper mids are fair. Bright mode seems a wee bit TOO bright to me, almost crispy or sizzly; Warm mode is muddy and ill-defined; Neutral mode lacks body and a bit of shimmer on the top.

All that said, you get what you pay for and sometimes you might even get a bit more. Considering that these units are $150/ea, or $125/ea if you buy them at Soundfreaq's web page, you can't ask for too much and yet soundfreaq delivers more than one might expect.

Great sound and easy to use bluetooth connection. Can't beat this item, considering a second to make the devices pair.

I was in search of a Bluetooth speaker and I soon learned if your ear very particular that all the portable Bluetooth speakers had limitations. I suppose it's based on size and the limitation that it creates. Nonetheless, I continued my search and just as I was about to give up and lose interest I heard the soundfreq platform two at target. At $150 at the box stores or $135 from amazon it's reasonably priced. It's small enough to move from place to place inside or outside of the house and large enough to,produce accurate sound. I have an extremely picky ear so I rejected 95 percent of what's on the market based on limited sound performace. Enter the soundfreaq platform two. It duplicates sound beautifully. The highs are clear, the bass response is adequate for me but might be less then for those who want that booming bass on the low end. The only rub on the sound iin the mid range sometimes is a bit shrill and unpleasant to the ear at high volume if the sound source is of lower quality and volume is pushed to a high level. All in all it was better sounding then any portable Bluetooth speaker of any size and price. Better then the Bose system at 300 bucks. Really a no brainer. By the way the soundfreaq has plenty of power and fills the room with sound without having to raise the unit to a level where distortion would become apparent. it also has a tone control with three settings so you can choose the setting that most suits your ear. I chose bright as I felt it replicated the high end the best.

The unit also can works in a pairing assuming you want or need to go there. People that reviewd it recommended the pair and were impressed with the sound quality. The pairing process was simple and fast. No problem even if your low tech.
