There is no category for this music. It drips with soul, it grooves like a mofo with funky drums and bass and has some nice horn lines that provide the jazzy melodies. I have been spinning this daily for weeks- it's all about the vibe baby and this music provides the perfect vibe for whatever your doin'. I dug this band from the first time I heard "Easy Access part 1 & 2" from Soul Fire records. I love this stuff.......LOVE IT!! Search the world for Desco, Soul Fire, Daptone & now Truth & Soul records- it's all goodies for the ears, heart & soul!

This is the instrumental funk that drove hip hop from its roots to the mainstream. While none of this is old music, its a freshly grown project spawned from the roots of hip hop. It is funk-jazz fusion genius. The stuff that will get people to lay aside their "chillout" albums and get switched on to some sparkling sounds of artist mayhem. It's not just live intruments that makes this better than downtempo electronic music, there's a breath of life in this album. Its sound, its beats, its melodies... they are art, they are a long walk by the ocean, they are an adventure, a drink of scotch, a memory of a girl, a paycheck, a piece of pottery with your hands curled around all soft and wet, a dream that has come to life, a puzzle that looks back at you and winks.

...and every sidekick needs chill out music. If that sidekick is in a 70's black genre film, then this is the music for you. It has an old school soul-jazz feel, but with a new school hip-hop vibe.

#1,5,10 and 11 are my favorites.

So if you like your soul/funk/jazz/hip-hop lyric free then you can do no better than this. It's just that simple. Word!

This album just makes you feel good. It something you turn on a summer day and while you sit on your front porch and absorb the rays of the sun...while sipping an alcoholic beverage and or getting high.

This is no mainstream, but a funky masterpiece for people who like high quality music! Great when you wanna chill, great when you wanna sit and relax with some friends, simply great when you wanna have a good time. Put it on and you can just let it play. Enjoy!

This album is a hidden gem of instrumental jazz funk...although almost all these songs move along at a very relaxed pace, this album is anything but boring...unlike so many other jazzy funk jams, these folks know how to make each song progress and grow within itself, rather than just "treading water" for 4 minutes...it's kind of relaxing and engaging at the same time. While they have established their own style, the songs don't all sound the same...cohesive but varied.
Fantastic marching drum beats layered with dancing sax and horns...not a single bad track here....
