Musical, powerful and oh-so-thin, DASH7

Superior sound quality from a stylish ultra-flat portable soundbar/speakerphone. Ideal for all tablets, smartphones, laptops and more. Unlike other companies, Soundmatters actually designs its speakers from scratch, and unlike other portable speaker systems, foxL is engineered around a pair of expensive highly sophisticated acoustic drivers, unique in their ability to reproduce both extreme high (tweeter) and low (woofer) frequencies from a single very small diameter (25mm) speaker, dubbed the "Twoofer".

Shockingly good sound and up to 12 hours of battery life. DASH7 incorporates the most advanced highest performance version of Soundmatters legendary Twoofers (tweeters that also woof), these pancake-flat ultra power neodymium drivers provide an uniquely wide frequency range and are augmented by our patented rechargeable BassBattery which not only delivers up to 12 hours of playback but augments the powered Twoofers by ingeniously doubling as a passive bass woofer. The result - over 8 octaves of music reproduction (for spec-hounds, that 70Hz-20kHz +/-3dB @0.5m).

I travel every week and I love it.

It's great in its own but I bought the FoxLo to add bass and depth and it's a really sweet combo.
This product has good sound for its compact size.

I have recently purchased the Soundmatters' FOXL Dash 7 I couldn't be happier. This piece of audio speaker is simply amazing. The sound is crispy clear with perfect low, mid and high tones with good thump to go along with it, thanks to its proprietary dual purpose battery/subwoofer. I am a musician and an audiophile. I own Bose, Harman Kardon and Boston Acoustics to name a few and I have to say DASH 7 is definitely worthy of my collection. This unit is definitely for audiophiles with discerning sound taste.

There are minor features missing/design flaws on this speaker if addressed will ULTIMATELY separate itself from others of the same class. Below is the breakdown.
1.Button design can be a little better. You really have to dig up your finger in there.

2.There is no beeping sound or auditory prompt when you push the power or volume buttons. This is probably my biggest gripe of all. The poor button design with no audio prompt makes it even difficult to know if you pressed it right or not. Turning the device ON and OFF could be a task. I am confident a firmware update can address some of this issue, especially the addition of auditory prompts or beep. Please update this. Please.

3.No dedicated Bluetooth pairing button. While pairing is not that difficult, it's not that easy either. To pair this device, it has to start from an OFF position, because it does not have a dedicated button. My Jambox is definitely the clear winner on this category.

4.Foldable cover is a nice cover, not so much as a stand. With the big sound coming from this device it knocks itself out of the foldable stand. (depends on the volume, of course).

5.Non-foldable power adapter prongs.

I gave the Dash 7 five stars because it is an excellent speaker, however I have two non bluetooth FoxL V2.2 speakers and compared them with the Dash 7. The specs are the same and the sound is the same. If you don't already have the FoxL then get the Dash 7 unit for more portability.

I love my little foxL Dash 7 because I use it with my ipad to watch movies that otherwise I can't hear. I hate my little foxL Dash 7 because the sound it so great that it forces me to multi-task - I now am able to listen to movies and cook at the same time even with the fan over my stove going full on.

All kidding aside, I had some problems when I first got the little critter, and I called the company directly instead of sending it back to Amazon because I live in the woods and bluetooth and wifi can be a problem here. I was figuring that the problem was on my end (and it was), but customer service was ever so great and they sent me a new one just to be sure (sure enough when they got mine back it worked just fine). I love giving credit to a great company - with a staggeringly great product.

I respect Soundmatters for being probably the first who tried to pack big sound into the smallest form-factor. The result "FoxL", which was brought to market some years ago, was able to impress.
Meanwhile there are much cheaper alternatives that sound comparable or even better. Or speakers costing the same, while sounding fuller, better and overall much louder.

The FoxL Dash 7 sounds hardly any different than the old FoxL. It is just a bit longer and slimmer, but overall not much has changed. The sound is not bad, but regarding price it is really on the weak side. Imagine you get a Sonos Play:1 for less with a really mature and full-bodied sound. Or for 199,- you can also have a Bose Soundlink Mini, which is heavier and a bit larger, but puts out much more sound. Even the small JBL On Tour Wireless produces comparable sound, but plays louder without distortion.

I would give all stars, if the Dash 7 was at least half the price, but for 200 there are much better alternatives!

Ordered the Dash 7 on the Oct 21 and recieved on Oct 23 2013 so right off the bat excellent service getting the product in my hands. With the Dash 7 in my hands you recognize that it has a bit of heft to it and I'm sure I could really do some damage if I really wanted to go about flinging my 200 dollar speaker at someone.

I agree with another user in that there is no audio cues for when you turn the Dash 7 on and off or connect with bluetooth which is a bit annoying. But with that said as long as you read the instruction book and are looking for the changes in light colors from the led light you should have no problems pairing this device to anything with bluetooth. I did have one instance where my nokia lumia 920 had some trouble with pairing, but considering I haven't had any trouble with my laptop I'm going to tentatively say that it is my phone that was having problems that was fix with a reset of my phone.

Now to the sound, I really can't say anything other than this has got to be the greatest sound I've heard from a pair of bluetooth speakers. When I say greatest, the best way to explain it is that the sound is crisp, and vibrant coming from the Dash 7. Now don't get me wrong, if you turn everything up too 100 percent on your phone/laptop/bluetooth device and the Dash 7 you are more than likely going to get a bit of distortion. At the same time though if you only turn the volume down a little bit you can get room filling sound if not house filling sound that I was getting with it at its loudest before distortion. Testing the range of the bluetooth I was able to go about 75 to 100 ft before I got hiccups and pauses in the music I was playing. This would probably be affected by what kind of bluetooth your device has.
