Product Description

Soundmatters introduces foxLv2, a worthy successor to the first and still only portable pocket-sized stereo speaker system good enough for an audio purist. Sound+Vision Magazine called the foxL, “the absolute best gift of all time for audiophiles.” Powered by its built-in lithium ion battery, its included wall-charger, or USB connection, foxLv2 provides shockingly good fidelity (and bass) for its size. Its patented battery system actually doubles as a bass woofer and its patented left and right channel "Twoofer" drivers are built much like an audiophile tweeter with the twist that they can also woof. foxL and foxLv2 were designed by physicist, former NASA engineer and audio design legend Dr Godehard Guenther. His new V2 version providing smoother deeper bass, even more open/”airy” highs, along with the ability to play a bit louder. Anti-motion acoustic mat now included. foxLv2 accepts stereo 3.5mm audio input and has battery life of 12 hours. A second model, the foxLv2 Bluetooth is also available, which along with all the foxLv2 performance/features adds wireless music streaming (from iPhone, etc.) and hands-free speakerphone capability. Dimensions: 5.6-Inch x 2.2-Inch x 1.4-Inch. Weighs 9.5 oz. US Toll-free product/tech support 800/698.soma (7662) ext. 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Luxuary portable mini speakers June 9, 2010
I shopped around, then ended up with 4 (Actually 5) portable mini speakers for my MP3 players (ZEN, from Creative Lab). This is the most costly ($169), yet best sound volume and quality portable mini speakers. It is a bit heavy as compared with the others. It can be charged with a worldwide plug (and a mini USB port.) It has a volume control, It comes with a non-slip pad, it has an output port for a sub-woofer. An on off switch, a battery charging indicator light that changes color from red to green. It comes with a soft porch for carry.

The next sound volume and quality portable mini speakers is the discontinued Sony SRS-T57, the 4 AA battery compartment made it a bit bulky. It cost around $35 ?

The next sound volume and quality portable mini speakers is the Dino iSpeaker, with impressive spec, 50-20K Hz, 90 dB, small foot print, very cheap (Cost less than 10% of the Soundmatters), The sound volume and quality is good. It is a buy for the price.

The one I will not recommend is the one from Creative Lab, it fits only the Zen Mosaic model. It costs three times as the Dino iSpeaker, but the sound volume and quality is not good. I broke the shipping package, otherwise, I would return and ask for a refund.

The last one is a bulky and heavy, AM/FM radio, the Sangean PR-D5, It is a good FM/AM radio, but the sound from the aux input is not as loud as the radio. I will not recommend it for mp3 player.

In short, if you can afford the $169, get this Soundmatters speaker. Otherwize get the Dino iSpeaker (It may be model CS-SP25, developed by Cool Sources in Taiwan, made in China)

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Sound, Small Package November 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
I read about these beauties in boing-boing and the was interested. For the money these speakers are absolutely amazing. Huge sound, with amazing clarity and excellent base response. I Actually had to dial back these tiny terrors because they were too loud.

At full throttle the base was muddy and tubby and really, really loud. The amount of punch delivered by the unit is astounding. In more normal operating conditions the speakers are near flawless. The base is full and punchy, the midrange is clean, and the highs are super-crisp and not a bit tinny.

As my FOXL spends almost all of its time tethered to a MacBook, battery life is not a concern. The FOXL happily sucks down USB power from the Mac. I have noted that there is a buzz from the unit when operated in this manner. How the DC voltage from the USB is causing a hum is bit of a mystery that is solved by just unplugging the unit from the USB hub. It may not be the fault of the unit but of the macally 7 port hub I use.

Bottom line I cannot praise the FOXL enough. If music matters to you and you need a high quality portable rig to play your tunes, go no father, this is your unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice little system April 30, 2011

Pros: sound quality, size, battery power, durability

Cons: oh so slight fuze-out at high volume

I bought this little unit to take on the road with me for my travels as a replacement for my Bose 2.0 speakers (which I really enjoy). The thing I like the most is the size. I can use this speaker system anywhere, thanks to the battery power, which will last for quite a while. Can't say exactly how long because I've never ran it long enough to run it down. My Bose have a little more power at high volume but for the size you won't find a better sounding unit anywhere. I take a lot of pride in doing research and getting the best. This little guy is the best for it's size. At high volume it will bounce right off the table but it comes with a neat little rubber pad to set it on which helps to eliminate this. The bass is almost too high. Turn it up and you'll see. The sound quality is absolutely amazing at low to mid-high levels which is more than enough to rock to in your hotel room. Top it out and it will fuze out slightly but not enough to take away from givng it 5 stars. When I say slighty I mean SLIGHTLY. I'm jamin out to it right now and it is awesome. I really can't say enough about how cool this thing is. The battery power, the size and portability, button function, everything is right where it should be. Only wish I would have bought the blue tooth model. Oh, one more thing, this thing is TOUGH too, dropped it several times already and not even a dent!!! If you love sound, maybe have a Bose unit and think this won't compare, have no doubts. You will be impressed - from packaging to quality of design to quality of sound - this little thing is the best you'll find for it's size. You won't regret the purchase!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For... April 7, 2011
Not much to add to what's already been said in previous reviews. I agree the kickstand is a little flimsy and its easy to mistakenly plug the power connector in any of the available holes, which are all the same size. It doesn't hurt anything, but I'd prefer if the power connector only fit one place. A very minor complaint. Connecting it to my Sony Vaio laptop via both units built-in Blue Tooth was a piece of cake and the only time I really had to look at the instructions (to determine the Blue Tooth code required for the FoxL, which is '0000')

Sound quality is amazing. The weight of this small unit is surprisingly heavy and the build quality, with the exception of the kickstand, is outstanding! The box includes plug adapters for the wall adapter for charging for four countries (US, China, Japan and Europe). Whereas most other manufacturers are cutting corners by selling these types of add-ons seperately, even an audio patch cable is included along with a easy to carry pouch to put everything into and protect while traveling with it.

I completely agree with the six other 5 star reviews that have come before mine and just wanted to offer another (my) independant opinion to the mix. That'll give it seven 5 star reviews in a row! Not too many products can make a claim like that and I'm betting there's going to be a lot more 5 star reviews coming in the near future as people discover this wonderful device!

Good sound but not as loud as the advertising. It certainly does NOT fill a room. Sounds great from three feet away, making it useful for some things.
