5.0 out of 5 stars Madlib, Stones Throw, Real Hip-Hop !!
Madlib is an underground lord, straight up. Anything his name graces right now is a sure sign of somethin' dope. Therefore, Lootpack's LP, "Soundpieces", is none other than a flavorful combination of top-notch production and wack MC attackin' lyricals. With guest spots by Dilated Peoples, and Quasimoto(Madlib in disguised voice, ever so brilliant) this LP is...

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly overrated but worthwhile
While this is a good album, it's missing something that truly great hip hop albums have. Madlib's beats are tight but lack feeling, and the lyrics don't amount to much. Perhaps if "underground" heads hadn't toted this as the greatest album since Breakin Atoms, I wouldn't be so disappointed.....

With guest spots by Dilated Peoples, and Quasimoto(Madlib in disguised voice, ever so brilliant) this LP is a must have. You will not find anything like this crew. It is unique indeed. Also without question, pick-up Quasimoto's "Unseen", Madlib's jazz project, Yesterday's New Quintet, and pretty much anything else with his name on the production credits. Peace.

I know that in this age when hip-hop and progressive seem oxymorons lootpack comes through with a cd that defies the formula that most "mainstream" hip-hop and rap "artist" seem to be stuck in for the last decade. Wildchild and Madlib take the hip-hop world and their fans to task with tunes like;Questions, B-Boy theme, the Anthem, Friendz vs. Endz. If I seem perphaps somewhat moralistic it is only because of the long list of bad characters in the music world who produce whatever the record company says they need.
This Stones Throw label and the people associated with it seem out to put a stop to the "wackness", and this cd along with others from the same label are well on their way to doing that. Hail PB Wolf, long live the Stones Throw era.

To everyone that has bad reviews about the LP (lootpack). This is truly, the album of '99. Only the headless could put this down, I have never heard anything like this. Madlib is the next Einstien on the boards, Wildchild has to be one the next,... well I can't give him too much. There are too many hard rappers out there. Anywhoo, This is in my arsonal, I think it should be in yours too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for anyone who buys CD's, June 22, 2000
This review is from: Soundpiecies: Da Antidote (Audio CD)
Reading some of these reviews here on amazon have really confused me. This is the best Hip Hop album of 1999. Period. LootPack sounds so nice on Soundpieces. They have that raw sound not low quality but not overproduced. I have tons of Hip Hop tapes and CD's to base this opinion on too. Blackalicious, del, ghostface, rawkus, mos def, the roots, goodie mob, jurassic 5, prince paul, dr. dre.....nobody did it better then Lootpack in 99. Go buy this album you won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A true banger, September 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Soundpiecies: Da Antidote (Audio CD)
I couldn't believe the production skillz of Madlib the first time I heard this album. As MC's, they get a little repetitive, and the guest MC's are not the greatest (except for Dilated)There is nothing wack on this album, but a few are skippable. Overall, a very dope album that every head should add to the collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't listen to The Source!!!!, August 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Soundpiecies: Da Antidote (Audio CD)
I know The Source said that the album was pretty weak, only giving it 2 1/2 mics, but DON'T LISTEN TO THEM!!! This is one of the best produced albums this year (props to Madlib), deserving at least 4 mics. The Source said that it didn't expand its subjects beyond battling wack emcees, but that is the essence of the element of emcee'n!!! And they do go beyond those subjects too: just check out the "Weededed", which is a humorous anti-drug song. With all the pot smoking emcees, this track is definatley a breath of fresh air (pun intended) to non drug users like myself. Obiviously The Source failed to listen to this classic album thoughouly enough, since they were too busy taking bribes from Master P to give his mindless trash 4 mics.

hmmmm well this album for all intents and Purposes Is better than anyhting out there ON BET and MTV as far as what they play for hip-hop or whats POPular..but in terms of an Underground Gem No its not..I do enjoy most of what stones-throw puts out and i cant wait for More.. Qausimotos album is a must have and SO is P.B. Wolf's joint from Stones Throw..

MAdlib aka Qausimoto does his thing with production on this one and the Rhyme style is True West.. But they do reek of Repeated rantings on Whack crews/tracks which is fine.. cause there are alot of them out there

I think you have to be a lover of Loot Pack to fully enjoy this album and I do
