Editorial Reviews

Timeless ocean waves rolling in upon soft sands. Imagine yourself beside a blue shimmering sea. You can almost feel the gentle breeze as you dream of distant shores. Over 64 minutes of pure, relaxing ocean waves. The most popular CD of the sounds of the Earth series.

Customer Reviews

Good track of sounds of rolling ocean waves.
Bren
It's very soothing, helps me fall asleep faster, and drowns out all those little bumps-in-the-night that might wake me up.

I recommend it to everyone that want to relax...

I have purchased several recordings of the ocean over the years, and the quality has varied quite a bit. Some have too much hiss and sound more like rolling static, and others sound like swishing bathwater. But this recording is just right. It's realistic, consistent throughout the entire hour, and has no music or birds, just pure surf. It sounds great on any size stereo, and if your system has an equalizer you can adjust it for different acoustics. The lower rumbling sounds can only be heard through larger speakers, but there's enough body and definition in the mid and high ranges to sound just as good on a smaller bedroom system. I play this CD every night on repeat mode on my Bose Wave Music System. It's very soothing, helps me fall asleep faster, and drowns out all those little bumps-in-the-night that might wake me up.

I also recommend Waterfall and Rain in the Country, two more titles in the Sounds of the Earth series.

This CD has pure sounds of the ocean and nothing else. There is no music on it, and there are no other interruptions. I like to lie in bed at the end of the day with my ear phones on and listen, as it takes all the stress away. It's great for helping to relieve a headache, and is a wonderful tool for anyone who has trouble sleeping. This tape will help you drift off to sleep in no time! If you close your eyes while listening, it's like having the ocean right at your bedroom window.

It used to take me 30-45 minutes to fall asleep at night, even with soft music playing on the radio next to my bed. Now I pop this in the CD and I am sound asleep in less than 5, and I feel more rested in the morning, too. I think it puts me in a deepr level of sleep than I had been able to attain on my own or with just music in the background.

Despite a couple of minor shortcomings this is a very good Ocean sounds CD. Definitely one of the better if your purpose is finding sleep. This cd has continual sounds instead of the start and stop motion that Solitudes Ocean Surf has. However, that was not my purpose as I listen during the day at work as it is calming without interrupting my train of thought. There were minor shortcomings for my purposes in that the recording sounds the same no matter where you are in the CD. It would benefit from added variation. Also, occasionally the tone loses the outdoors feel and almost sounds like it was recorded in an enclosed recording studio. But these are very minor and I am pleased with the cd. My favorite though is still Echoes of Nature: Ocean Waves

If you are looking for a cd of soothing relaxing sounds of waves breaking on the rocks then look no further. This on has got it. There are no seagulls crying in the background, no seals grunting. Just waves breaking on the rocks. Great for going to sleep with.

My wife and I use this to help fall asleep and it works very well. My only small criticism is that, initially, we have to turn the volume up quite a bit to hear the dimmer ocean sounds then, when the first wave comes crashing down, just about get knocked out of bed. It's not a big deal--we just adjust the volume at that point and it's fine and it's likely this is due to our hearing difficulty and not a fault of the disc.

This is a recording made without birds or other distracting sounds. Just the ocean, wave after wave. If you are a serious audiophile then turn the volume way up and hear all of the hissing and sloshing of each wave as it spends itself on the beach ! But if you intend to listen for relaxation, or want a soothing background noise for sleeping, then my advice is to put the speakers further away from you and to turn the volume down. The microphone seems to have been placed very low on the beach, so that the water-effects closer to the mike have a greater sound level than if you were actually listening in real life, on a real beach. The perspective is a bit off, in that it is less an oveall ambient sound.

The microphone would be placed higher and further back from the ocean to produce a sound that was not filled with so many specific details (for my optimum ocean recording) but at least there are no birds or foghorns or passing ships or airplanes (OR MUSIC!) so this recording is pretty gosh-darned good, but not perfect!

A lifelong insomniac living on a street corner in a busy town, I needed this disk to mask the sounds of car doors slamming and people making Indy 500 U-turns under my window. No complaints at all with this disk: no birds to jolt you awake, no fog-horns, just waves on the beach. It is soft in places, and fades to quiet at the very end but that's not necessarily a problem. Sounds like the waves at Assateague on a mild surf day.
