3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By AvidOldiesCollector TOP 100 REVIEWER on September 14, 2011
Format: Audio CD
Back in the earliest days of the CD format, Time-life more or less cornered the market on oldies music, covering every genre known in various series, from Big Band, to The Rock 'N' Roll Era to Folk, R&B and Country, all in a mail-order only blitz on TV (remember? "you can't get these in any store").

Well now they're popping up in garage sales, flea markets and on-line, most often in used format although you can get unopened volumes here and there. This one, from their Sounds Of The Seventies series, covers 1971, offering up 21 tracks with excellent sound, a discography of the contents (original label details, highest Billboard chart position, and in some cases even a sessionography), all in a fold-out insert that also contains 4 pages of background notes by John Morthland.

If you're searching for certain 1971 hits and they happen to be in this volume, rest assured you likely won't find a better copy anywhere else.

I was raised with many of these songs and this is an easy way to get most of the items I enjoy. Like all compilation discs, all the songs aren't my favorites. They are all very good though. Who love everything on the radio back then anyway?
