I play Mr. Allison's CD frequently in my Computer Engineering Lab.The lab teaches high school students how to install and run MSDOS OS's, UNIX, LANS, WANS, FTP, PROXY Servers, and all the hardware associated with this these installs. Mr. Allison's music provides a wonderful background to this kind of thoughtful activity and the students and I really enjoy it. RJB

Sounds of Scandia 2000,
This review is from: Sounds of Scandia 2000 (Audio CD)
I first listened to this collection of classics while wrestling with a lobster dinner at my camp in the Maine woods. When I closed my eyes, the music transported me to an elegant place surrounded by sophisticated people. Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin. . .they were all at my table. I "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" but as I sat under a "Blue Moon" with "My One and Only Love," I thought it "Seems Like Old Times." "Thanks for the Memory," Bob!

Bob is Boffo!,

We first heard Bob Allison at the Emerson Inn at Rockport, Masschusetts, and fell in love with his music and his charm. His CD, "Sounds of Scandia", takes us back to those wonderful evenings of romantic love songs and always serves as the background music for parties. It provides instant, great ambience. Fans of Cole, Gershwin, and the old standards will be thrilled with this wonderful CD. Bob is our own Bobby Short, and we look forward to hearing him each year in person.

This is feel-good music of a very high order. When I first read the title "Songs of Scandia," I had visions of guys in Lederhosen singing Norwegian folk songs. Instead, it turns out to be some of the most sophisticated music from the '30s, '40s and '50s: Ellington's "Satin Doll," Gershwin's "Lady Be Good," Horace Silver's "Song For My Father," Brubeck's "Take 5," Porter's "Anything Goes" - They don't come any better than that. And it's all played by a virtuoso who uses his considerable musical talent to showcase the songs, not his own cleverness. With him, it's all about the music. He plays the songs blessedly straight, with great affection and great good humor. Think of him as Bobby Short without the mannerisms. This is the perfect disk for your next party, or just to listen to by yourself while sipping a glass of 25-year-old single malt Scotch. It's great good fun. Highly recommended!

Sounds Of Scandia 2000,

I like the romance of New Years Eve and Bob Allison's live performance selection is like being there... in a softly lit lounge all the way to midnight complete with the occasional clink of glasses in the distant background. From "Misty" to"Georgia On My Mind" to "As Time Goes By" listening is a pleasure to be savored. All are executed with an understanding of the compositions and intimate feelings for them. Allison is a find in a sea of fingers tickling the Ivory. My ears tell me this guy has a great sense of humor... I can't help but wonder what he'd do with some Jerry Lee Lewis or maybe some Floyd Cramer but I suspect he's a trifle young for that sort of 1950's nonsense. Sounds Of Scandia 2000 has a permanent slot in my CD player.

Ever since we had the pleasure of hearing Bob "live" at the Emerson Inn in Rockport, Mass, we have been fans. My son (at the time 18 months) was so enthralled by his music, we spent every night at his piano, listening to familiar tunes; the Sound of Music songs were clearly my sons favorite. Even now, several months after our introduction to Bob and his music, my son reaches for his CD and says, "Play Bob". (We love it too!)

Mr. Allison's sensitive and skillfull playing of "the Greats", such as Porter, Ellington, and Gershwin, is delightful. It is a mellow and classy CD.
