Authentic Country Music,
By
This review is from: Sounds So Good (Audio CD)
I'm so glad that Ashton Shepherd made it. I love real country music, and I know what it sounds like. There's no filler on this album. Each song is worth listening to, and there's plenty of twang, cryin' steel guitar, and drinkin'.
Her voice is amazing and powerful, similar to Patty Loveless and Sara Evans. Anyone who appreciates real county music will love this album. There aren't any songs that totally stood out as "new" or "different", but at the same time they don't seem like recycled or retreaded music (Think Kenny Chesney/Rascal Flatts). She has serious songs like "How Big Are Angel Wings", cryin' songs "Old Memory", good upbeat songs about drinkin' and geetar pickin' like her first single "Takin' Off this Pain", "Sounds So Good", and "The Pickin' Shed." Great album. I'd also highly recommend Sarah Johns' album, "Big Love in a Small Town." Keep it country!

Finally Real Country!,
By D. Morales (Tucson, Arizona USA) - See all my reviews

This album is a refreshing splash of real country into a pool of pop and voiced over music. Ashton Shepherd brings back what country should sound like, not what we hear today from cop outs like Rascal Flatts and pop princesses like Taylor Swift. This album has a sound like that of Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, and George Jones, real country singers. Every song has that unique traditional sound that is so easy to listen to. Keep up the good work Ashton and all you real country fans don't pass this album up!

I am a 30-year-old female and I have been listening to this album nonstop. Ashton's voice is strong and confident, and I love that she co-wrote almost every song! A nice change of pace from Carrie Underwood/Taylor Swift/Kellie Pickler. This music has authenticity. Try listening; you'll like it.

No pop fluff here. Ashton's record is for fans of the music made by Gretchen Wilson, Miranda Lambert, and Tanya Tucker. She's the real deal!

SO GOOD WORDS CAN'T DESCRIBE,
This review is from: Sounds So Good (Audio CD)
The first time I played this CD I could not stop listening to it, I just kept playing it over and over. What a talent this girl is!
Listening to Ashton's music you can hear so many influences from Hank Williams to the Outlaw Country of Willie and Waylon to traditional country, yet in the end it can only be defined as Ashton Shepherd's music because there is no one else like her. This is pure country with an attitude, not the "bubble gum country" of Taylor Swift and so many others these days. Ashton's voice and compositions are simply amazing. Whatever music you buy this year, make sure that you buy this CD. Be fore warned tho, you won't be able to stop listenting to it. I can't wait to see Ashton peform in person!

Ashton Shepard's new CD Sounds So Good, is a wonderful tribute to down home country music. The pure sound of her voice carries you to another place in time; where friends get together and create mussic that warms your sole. The 11 tracks are all special in their own right. They tell a story of many human emotions that transend time. My favorite is the Pickin Shed. Ms Shepard is destined to become a country Music Ikon in her own right. Enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!

As Ashton sings "ain't nothin' like the sound of real country music, come on turn it up!",

First off, I just HAVE to roll my eyes (kindly, yet publicly) at reviewer from Brandon, MS. @@@@ LOL I mean really. *shaking head* I believe that country folks will appreciate the line "ain't nothin' like the sound of a cooler slushin' on the bed of your truck." They'll GET it.
Anyway, moving on. It's SO REFRESHING to hear some REAL country music from a REAL country gal! Highlights on the album for me were: the kiss-off first track and Ashton's debut single "Takin' Off This Pain" and my new country girl anthem, "Sounds So Good". I SO could have HEARD Tammy Wynette or Loretta Lynn singing "I Ain't Dead Yet". As a SAHMomma of two young girls, I could certainly relate. "Old Memory" is so good it hurts. Man! Every hair on my body stands on end when I hear Ashton sing that song! I do pray it is a single . . . but then again it's probably "too country" for radio these days. @@ Such a shame. You know, I've heard a couple folks she sound like Gretchen Wilson. They must have a hearing problem 'cause she doesn't . . . she sounds like Ashton and even more country than GW does. I've heard folks say she's "too twangy." Uhhhh, yeah? So? Have we been so desensitized to it in the last decade that we can't recognized true blue country music artist? @@ I'm not saying you HAVE to have twang to sing country (we can't choose were we are born . . .I'm livin' proof of that), but geez . . . johnny-come-lately's may use that as a reason to not listen. Not me. She's a breath of fresh air! Oh, BTW, don't listen to "How Big Are Angel Wings" without a crapload of Puffs close by. :o(

pure, sweet country! love this album :),

First off, I'm 19, and Ashton Shepherd is one of the few NEW female country artists (along Miranda Lambert) that I can actually listen to without cringing. 8/11 songs are GREAT, the other three are still VERY GOOD. This is one of those rare occasions where EVERY song on the CD is worth listening to. Ashton Shepherd sings with a unique twang and pure country voice, no pop gimmick here. I'd say the most traditional ballad on the record is "Old Memory". Songs just aren't written anymore like that... listening to Ashton Shepherd feels like home.
If you are into twang and a real country sound, buy this CD!

Ashton Shepherd has only released two singles so far from her debut album. TAKIN OFF THIS PAIN and SOUNDS SO GOOD are just a taste of the wild honeyed voice that can be mellow or get the bees buzzing. She might be too country for radio but I hope she doesn't change. OLD MEMORY and I AIN'T DEAD YET could easily fit between CRAZY and HE STOPPED LOVING HER TODAY( In their hey days). Honky Tonk Angel has earned her wings and has only begun to fly.
Beautiful Voice. |
