Thunder by the Sea was the first nature CD I purchased and it has been played almost every night for seven months. It begins with the distant roll of thunder claps over the surf and for nearly an hour it improves. One hears surf, thunder, rain and not one item is out of harmony. In two or three places a sea gull is heard but it doesn't distract one bit from the soothing atmosphere. In the dry hot summer just add a small fan to the room and instant cooling storm. This CD has Not been "enhanced" with music so you can enjoy Mother Nature in all her glory without a band jolting you awake. The CD includes thunder and surf for a small price, well worth the money.

It is a measure of my disenchantment with contemporary music that CD's like these about all I currently listen to. And this is one of the best I've ever heard. The sound is clearer than most and the combination of waves and thunder is wonderfully relaxing. It doesn't beat a live performance(you can't top God's light shows either), but if you love a good thunderstorm, buy this. You can't beat the price.

When I found this in a bookstore I had to buy it and try it out and I'm very satisfied.It's what it says it is a thunderstorm over the ocean.The thunder is easily heard over the surf.The waves don't pound like they do in ultimate seashore but they still get choppy from time to time.I couldn't hear no rain falling over the ocean though maybe I didn't listen enough.This recording is just nature sounds no music is included.If you like recordings with thunderstorms and ocean waves at the same time I also recommend seascapes from the solitudes series.The waves in seascapes start pounding hard when it starts thundering a true marine experiance.Also the same company that put out thunder by the sea also has a cd of Niagara Falls.If you can find it I highley recommend it.It features the roar of niagara.

This CD does exactly what it is supposed to do--almost trick you into thinking you're listening to a storm over the ocean. There is no distracting music, just thunderstorm and ocean sounds. A very good deal, a solid hour of soothing music that does not get old if you put it on repeat. Very relaxing, also good as white noise.

This CD has a very realistic sound of waves, sometimes gentle and sometimes crashing. Over these waves, thunder rolls in from far away and gets more intense. The great thing about the thunder is that it is building more and more, like a real thunderstorm. But if you are listening to relax, like I was, it does not get so loud that it startles you awake, as many of the storm CDs I have bought before have. It is also not a CD that sounds like someone recorded 30 seconds of a storm and put it on a loop. The sounds and the storm vary throughout. Before I ordered this, I read some of the reviews complaining about the bird in the background. I heard it a couple different times during the CD. It is not loud or distracting and only lasts for a few seconds. It is like a bird flying by and is very accurate to what you would hear sleeping by the shore. The is the cheapest CD I have purchased, but it is by far the best I have heard! You won't regret buying this.

False Advertising. There is barely any thunder. If I counted correctly, thunder can be heard a total of three times. The CD should be retitled "Sounds of the Sea (with a Rumble of Thunder Every Twenty Minutes)." I already own a Sounds of the Sea CD, so this purchase was a complete waste of money.

I bought this looking to replace another thunderstorm CD that was just too loud and startling. At the price, I wasn't expecting much, but it's wonderful. Soothing waves, gentle thunder and no new age music.

I love the ocean and this is the only way to hear it in Kansas. I use this CD to wake up with instead of an annoying alarm sound.

The the exception of a distant bird occasionally on the CD, this was soothing, distant thunder thats not overwhelming with the constant wave lapping the shore sound. Recommended.

I LOVE this cd. When I first moved to WA I was still afraid of thunderstorms, even after years of living in CA where they are a winter event. Then my husband bought a cd that featured thunderstorms and began playing it at night to help him sleep. Gradually I began to NOT be so afraid. Then one night I actually went outside during a thunderstorm, and wasn't afraid. So, I bought this cd and it has helped me relax at night and sleep better.
