3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but they missed one! March 6, 2010
Format:Audio CD
I believe this listed having all the songs from the Opening Ceremony, but it missed one of the best versions of "Hallelujah" I have ever heard. I'm not a big k.d. lang fan, but my whole family had goose bumps listening to her. Too bad this was not included on this album.

3.0 out of 5 stars I Don't Get It, Do You? March 12, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Like so many others, I was enthralled by the music of the opening ceremony and could hardly wait for the CD to be available for purchase. The disappointment that took over because K.D. Lang's haunting rendition of "Hallelujah" was missing ruined the excitement of receiving it and pretty much devalued the whole experience. What were they thinking???

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding... February 20, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Vancouver's opening ceremonies were just outstanding musically. Joni Mitchell's gorgeous, haunting rendition of her BOTH SIDES NOW is here, and it's alone worth the price of the disc. This CD presents all the original music heard during the opening ceremonies, from original orchestral tracks to narration, Sarah MacLachlan's contribution and the upbeat Bryan Adams-Nelly Furtado power ballad. Wonderful!

3.0 out of 5 stars OK opening May 30, 2010
Format:Audio CD
The opening ceremonies at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver were a great spectacle, and featured a lot of great music and musicians. This album, which features almost all of the performances, comes across pretty well. Although it is missing k.d. lang's amazing performance of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and the French-Canadian artist Garou singing "Un Peu Plus Haut." With those performances aside, the rest of this album is still enjoyable.
Ten of the tracks are orchestral, performed by the Vancouver 2010 Orchestra. The orchestra plays through the commissioned pieces, most of which are composed by Dave Pierce. Several of the pieces include narration by Donald Sutherland, and one of the most beautiful tracks: "Who Has Seen the Wind," which features Sutherland over Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now."

Also featured is "Bang the Drum," an upbeat song by Bryan Adams and Nelly Furtado. O Canada, sung by Nikki Yanofsky, is a more contemporary, jazz arrangement of the national anthem, and apparently caused some consternation among Canadians who wished to hear a more traditional approach. "Rhythms of the Fall" is a medley of sorts, that features the orchestra, Fiddle Nation, Solo Tap-Dancer Brock Jellison and Ashley MacIsaac. Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" is another beautiful addition to this album.

Overall, this is a good album featuring some of Canada's best musicians and artists. Even though they left the most memorable performance of the opening ceremonies off this album, the album is still memorable enough with the other performances.
