I didn't realize there was a first collection of this music until I saw Sounds of Wood & Steel 2 so I bought it to see what it was like. My husband and I love it! We enjoy the way the artists describe the reasoning behind the songs they chose as well as knowing what make and key their Taylor was played in. I particularly enjoyed Richie Sambora's sound due to the description of the song's origination. I plan on ordering the first collection since we have enjoyed this one so much. This is wonderful music to enjoy your day or evening by. It's sure to please anyone who plays guitar or just loves to hear that awesome sound.

I own both the 1st "wood & steel" compilation CD and the 2nd effort. All I can say, is they might be the BEST solo guitar, finger-style compilations produced. This is a fantastic production from renouned new age label WindHam Hill. All players are playing their Taylors'. What a great idea!
As an owner of a Taylor 512, and fan of many of these artists, i found these compilations to be essential to my collection.
You wont be disappointed.

If you like, even just like, acoustic guitar you will like this record. The perfect record for a candlelight dinner or peaceful quite evenings. I love just about every song on this record. Lovely, intricate guitar playing.
Listening to this record on the couch, with the lights off and my eyes closed, makes me feel like I am lying by a crackling creek, in the grass, under a blue sky, temperature about 80 degrees, when I was ten years old.

What's not to like about this compilation? I'm not at all sure why some reviewers were "disappointed" by this cd. I'm thrilled to have so many leads to all of this talent. One shouldn't expect to like every tune on a cd such as this, because there are so many different styles, but I feel that the producers did an amazing job keeping the tone very similar, so that one can enjoy this cd from beginning to end. Keep in mind, too, that this type of music is designed to be background for reading, or writing a letter, or doing a puzzle, or studying, or just relaxing. It's SUPPOSED to be unobtrusive. It's not supposed to be mindblowing or alter your consciousness. It's just supposed to set a mood and help you mellow out, and it certainly does that artfully.

I rcvd "Sounds of Wood & Steel" volume 2 as a gift from my children several years ago. My guitar instructor was aware of this Windham Hill series but did not own any of the CDs. So, I ordered volume 2 and gave it to my instructor as a gift. He was delighted. If someone in your life appreciates the sound of acoustic guitar music you can endear yourself to him or her with a gift of volume 1, 2, or 3. The entire series is excellent and I would recommend all of them.

This is so outstanding, I'm thinking of buying the first one too. Been listening to it non-stop.
I downloaded it because I heard Jim Messina wrote "The Island" because of his love of Hawaii, and when I tried to find the song, this album was the only location and the song was "album only" so I bought the entire album. Glad I did, some songs are better than others, but all make for very pleasant music for gardening, walking, and hiking (I've done all three activities while listening to it so I should know).
Some songs are extremely beautiful, all are instrumental. If you like Steel guitar or Hawaiian music (even though this is NOT Hawaiian music) or Guitar Arpeggios (THAT is another fantastic album), you will like this.

I own all three volumes and only wish I had discovered them when they first came out. I love acoustic guitar and these are by far some of the most relaxing and beautiful volumes of such available. When you listen to any of them you are transported into a warm delightful place where your senses are awakened by the wonderful rhythmic sounds from the various artist. Your soul will thank you every time you sit and listen to these wonderful recordings.

I have bought this CD, actually, around my Richie Sambora-Collection to complete. All of course Richie Sambora at the head 'see "Ava`s Eyes". A jewel of his creating which documents the big love to his daughter once more. But also the rest can absolutely see itself, sorry, allow to hear. A wonderful CD for switching off, dream and a lot more. To recommend very much.
