5.0 out of 5 stars Just like seeing him live
As most of you know doc martin is by far the most remarkable live house dj you can listen to. He is infamous for tearing up the turntables and busting out beats that other djs can only sit in awe at. Doc martin hasnt always been known for his Cds. Unless your thinking of unlock your mind which was one of his earliest cds and as we all know it changed house in its time...

3.0 out of 5 stars Lacks Energy and Continuity
I bought this CD from reading the above reviews and have purchased other Doc Martin recordings (imperial dub recordings, volume 2, which is fantastic) and have also seem him perform a fabulous five hour set in Seoul. As most of you know doc martin is by far the most remarkable live house dj you can listen to. He is infamous for tearing up the turntables and busting out beats that other djs can only sit in awe at. Doc martin hasnt always been known for his Cds. Unless your thinking of unlock your mind which was one of his earliest cds and as we all know it changed house in its time. Sounds you can feel is like sittin in front of the turntables and staring up at doc as he flows beats from the tables. Its like sittin in the center of new york's best club just grooving to the music. Sounds you can feel isnt just deep thriving house Doc has done his usual once again and poured in just enought funk to keep you glued to your seat just waiting for what beat is going to creep out next. Sounds you can feel is a definate buy if your a house/funk fan. Truley remarkable

5.0 out of 5 stars Doc Mature, June 19, 2002

This review is from: Sounds You Can Feel (Audio CD)
Where do I start and how does he do it? Well, first of all, on this CD, Doc really captures the essence of his sound through the soul of House. Thank goodness I didn?t find that one-dimensional obnoxious thump-dumping of the ?Progressive? sound that seems to be bombarding the scene. But Doc would never do that. He?s from the true school training of dance DJ ? from Toon Town back in ?90 to Citrus in ?91 ? he?s lived it, honey. Here, Doc uses the true elements of dance music that really makes me feel confident/good to move to. It penetrates my limbs while stimulating my mind.

Doc always tells a story through his mixes (something that is lost in the vacuous mixes going on these days), and this one is joyful and uplifting. Starting out with ?Just for Fun,? I can feel the happiness that Doc shares right from the start. Then he beams out the rays of ?Day?s Like This,? which is so bright and happy, it makes me smile like a sunflower. Right after, Doc is reflective with ?Lovelee Day? ? its echoey sound whispering from the ether. I tear here as I?m reminded of the mortal realization of watching my days from beginning to the natural end. It?s beautiful!

Doc also reaches out with a gay sensitivity as he plays ?Down.? This is so bold and refreshing as Doc steps out of the narrow line that today?s mega-mundane DJ?s follow (I wish Doc would play at more gay clubs). Doc knows the roots of this music, and there are even hints of old-school Disco with ?Off Side? and ?Super Disco.? These tracks are almost a tribute to the master -- Larry Levin and the Paradise Garage.

Doc?s humanity shows through with his insight into unrequited love. House?s message is love and the yearning for it, because this planet lacks it so much. Doc captures this idea with the lonely ?Hold On? ? so heart felt, aching for finding that special someone. If that?s not enough, he leads into ?In Your Arms,? which repeatedly says ?I need your love.? We all know that we?re not getting the love we need, and Doc shares this idea so fluidly that its so real.

?Sounds You Can Feel? is so true. As a true dance believer, this mix is rich with wonderful tracks and Doc?s mastery to fill its canvas with each delightful stroke - penetrating deeper and deeper until you explode with exhilaration. This is one CD mix I will keep coming back to for more, and more, and more? How lucky I was to be able to see Doc at the CD Release party at Giant (even though my t-shirt was missing even though I carefully hid behind the stacked chairs near the kitchen). It was soooo good and healing to see Doc after almost 10 years since his parties at the Hong Kong Club. Forever in the faith!

I was very excited to hear this CD, however I found this CD to lack any real energy and with no continuity between tracks leaves for a rather lifeless experience. There are some tracks that are quite good but others just seem out of place and have no "pure" house sound ie. track 2 sounds like a trip into outerspace rather than a trip to a dark underground night spot.
