This review is from: Soundstage - Chris Isaak (DVD)
My husband and I saw Chris Isaak for the first time on Sound Stage in the October of 2005, in his blue sequined suit and we were so impressed with the show, we leaped out of our chairs and ran to Amazon to order it. There it was-Chris Isaak 2005-GREAT and in the cart. It is an ok DVD, but it is from and earlier Sound Stage done in 2003. The band is much more subdued, the song selection is not as good and though we are not going to send it back we were disappointed. Just thought I would warn you. Also the bonus tracks are other people not Isaak. Hope this is helpful. Catherine

Chris Isaak Soundstage,

Like some others who saw Chris Isaak on Soundstage this year, and were hoping this is the same show, it is not. This is an old show and doesn't have the number of songs that the show this year had. Audio is very good. Show is shorter than the one shown this year.

I waited a long time for this one to come out - it was well worth it but I sure do wish it was longer in length!
Chris seems so relaxed and like he's having so much fun here - his banter with both the band and the audience had me cracking up. He's a natural born entertainer, and I am very much hoping to see him live in person sometime soon. Here's to the Baja Sessions DVD coming out very soon : - )

First let me say I am a huge fan of Chris Isaak....huge!
I have seen Chris live and this was just not the same or close. He is as always charming and cool. Sounds great too! But this dvd just does not capture what I saw live. Maybe it is just too short (45 minutes!). I also take into account that this is a PBS soundstage presentation and not a full Chris Isaak concert. I would purchase this again as right now there is no other live concert footage out there except for what is on is showtime dvd's.

It was good, not great, I would love to see a video of a full concert instead of one for PBS but otherwise I enjoyed it. Great vocals and incredible band. Silvertone doesn't get enough credit.

Although this concert seems to be missing a song I distinctly remeber seeing when I first caught this show on TV ("Please"), and it is overall, shorter than one would like, Isaak's wonderful stage presense on hot pink suit save the day, and make me unable to rank this any lower than a five.

Nice, but not what I saw on stage either,

This production is good, and serves to show folks what Chris Isaak is sort-of like on stage. It is also a good reminder to those of us who have been fortunate enough to see him live. However, it isn't a great representation of what I saw in Oklahoma City and Kansas City in the summer of '07. Those shows were GREAT, with lots of audience interaction, beautiful songs, humor, and a...closeness...that just didn't come across in this DVD. Maybe it is just me as a long-time fan, but I would like to see one of his concerts, a modern one, recorded end-to-end and offered in that way.

Excellent Singer & Comedian,

I'm very familiar with Chris Issak's voice, having owned a half dozen or so of his CDs, but I had never seen him perform until "Soundstage" DVD. It exceeded my expectations in that I never knew Issak was such a comedian. The guy is hilarious!
Most importantly, he sang well and did some of this best songs. The only bad part of this DVD is that it is so short: the program is only 46 minutes long, enough for about 11 numbers. This guy is such a good singer and so entertaining between songs that I wish this concert was longer. I've read that people who attended this remarked it was longer but cut for this disc. When I told a good friend about this DVD, he remarked he has seen Isaak twice in concert and said they were two of the best concerts he's ever attended. They were a lot wilder and risqué than the material shown on this made-for-TV disc (which he had also seen.) Anyway, the songs we hear are: American Boy, Wicked Game, Go Walking Down There, Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing, Courthouse, Somebody's Crying, One Day, San Francisco Days, Forever Blue and Super Magic 2000. The most fun was "Baby Did A Bad, Bad Thing" because Isaak did a great job with the song and added some great humor to it.

Chris Issak is a dying breed and this video shows why he is such a great talent. He's funny and entertaining and I recommend this to anyone who loves Roy Orbison.

Soundstage - Chris Isaak, from 2005.
As always, a pleasure to watch him. He is not only good looking and charming, he can sing too! A great mix of old and "new" songs, a beautiful version of "Forever blue", one of my absolute favourits. Well spent money. And as usual, good service from amazon! |
