Editorial Reviews

Captured in High-Definition and Mixed in 5.1 Surround Sound

Michael McDonald lends his soul-stirring voice to Motown’s greatest hits in this live performance recorded in High-Definition for the PBS concert series Soundstage. Belting out tracks from his two critically-acclaimed Motown concept albums, the Grammy Award-winner revives some of the most influential American music ever made. Joined by special guests Toni Braxton, India.Arie, Take 6 and Billy Preston, McDonald presents 14 classics – from the rollicking “I Second That Emotion” to the poignant “What’s Going On” – that pay tribute to Hitsville legends such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson.

Features: I Second That Emotion, I Was Made To Love Her, What’s Going On, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, All In Love Is Fair, Stop Look Listen (To Your Heart), Baby I’m For Real, Tracks Of My Tears, Since I Lost My Baby, Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever, You’re All I Need To Get By, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing, Nowhere To Run

I was hoping that this Soundstage show would be released on DVD; to learn that three extra tracks will be included made it a definite purchase for me. How cool that the late Billy Preston's work will be included!

I really love this Dvd. Micheal has been a household name for me since the 1980's. My one daughter is now a teenager(15Years)
old and she also liked the songs. When she heard him singing while the Dvd was playing she screamed from the room and asked"Dad who is that man?"She was even more impressed when she heard him singing with Toni Braxton "Stop, look and listen..."I had to take out my cd's of him and record it for her. There could have been more songs with Toni.India Arie was also great.Well done for such a young artist. I would'nt mind buying the Motown 2 tribute.
This tribute brings also great memories back with "Since i lost my babe". I lost my wife in a car accident 18 months ago.

Kind regards.
D.a. Kelly

Being a huge Motown fan from the 60's and a Doobie Bros fan from the 70's, Michael McDonald's interest in perpetuating Motown music is, for me, the combined best of both worlds. This is a TV Soundstage performance so I wish it were longer, but the performances were great (a phenomenal, kick-ass female drummer) and lots of super guest artists so I love the DVD. My only complaint is that it's not available in Blu Ray.

What a great concert, great quality and great set list. Be sure to listen to Yvette 'Babygirl' Preyer, the drummer. She is a virtuoso for sure. Joining McDonald are his Doobie Brothers, Tom Johnston (who is sadly showing his age) and Pat Simmons (who is awesome as ever). Also Ashford and Simpson joins McDonald on a couple of Motown tunes. While they sounded great, Nikolas Ashford is still dressing from the 70's (LOL). I watched this often and put it on when I have a party. People love it!

Really good product. At this point I think it is not necessary to talk a about Mr McDonald's background, so for his fans it is just another good live show. To listen The VOICE and music feeling of Michael is a present from mother nature. Period.

But if you realize that for better performance he has chosen as partners the outstanding voices os India.Arie and Toni Braxton, then we are talking about something really special.

Outstanding.

Sorry for my English. It is the better I can explain myself.
