Format:Audio CD
I'm just going to put this out there in bullet form. Each character's tracks. Sorry that they are not in order. Overall, it was worth a buy for the MP3s. It was cheap. A true fan should put down the money for the actual, CD, but I was impatient. The overall style of this CD is electronica/trance/dance.
Goro's song: wow. That was impressive, perfectly fits his character. I must say, would be a great tune to use when fighting against him!
Reptile's song: Dope song. Just a really well put thogether song, and I like the "reptile" annoucements.
Radain's song: hahaha totally should have been Jax's song. It sounded like something Xzibit made.
Liu Kang's song: seem to fit his character well. Sound's very 'dojo' ish. Bass drops are very cool. Not really digging the overall 'trance' feel in the begining.
Sub Zero's song: Definitely felt like I was somewhere in a frozen tundra. A litte trancey and goes into more of dance towards the end.
Mlieena's Song: Very cool horror, down temp beat. If I were in outworld and that played, I'd run like hell.
Scoprion's song: Didn't care for the begining, but got better when ambient sounds came in. Sounds similar to Benny Bani's - Statisfaction (spelling on that guy's name).
Kung Lao's song: Felt like I was getting dizzy. Reminds me of chocobos from FF7. Loved the chorus breaks (probably 2 of them total).
Johnny Cage's song: I could totally see Cage walking into the club with his shades on to this (walking like Statyin' Alive style). Very cool song, the break was awesome, gave me goosebumps. Also features the annoucer's voice, love it.
Kano's song: Was a decent song, reminded me of Johnny Cage's except the breaks were a big let down.... Read more ›

Im no techno fan, but this album has some good stuff on it. another hidden jem, just like "More Kombat". I highly suggest the themes for Johnny Cage, Mileena and Reptile. They are the best of the best on this album.

After falling in love with Mortal Kombat all over again thanks to the amazing 2011 video game reboot, I thought I'd go a step further and support the franchise by purchasing this album containing 12 tracks "inspired" by the warriors. I read some so-so reviews ahead of time and after listening to it a few times myself all the way through, I kind of have to admit my own feelings towards it never really elevated above lukewarm level, either.
That's not to say it's awful, but at the same time I'm perplexed as to how twelve different producers working with twelve different artists all somehow ended up making twelve different tracks that sound exactly the same. I'm very into dance/techno music so I had an inkling of what to expect from a genre I generally do love, but even so, only three or four of the tracks here really go that extra mile to make themselves stand out and distinguish themselves from what otherwise might come off as an hour-long mish-mash of random noise. The disc pulls you in immediately with the fantastically ominous Scorpion's theme, and continues with the chilling ode to Mileena. Things start to get a little bland around the middle, with the exception of Reptile's fun and energetic theme which uses soundbytes from the classic MK games, including the (in)famous "Toasty" but then more or less settles down again until the very end. The album closes with Shao Kahn's theme, which is actually quite good and successfully captures that epic "power" element I think they were going for.
As I said before, I do like techno, but I also feel like several of these tracks might have benefited from using actual musical instruments rather than sticking strictly to just digital blips and bleeps.... Read more ›

There is some killer electronica on this album. In my opinion, some of the tracks didn't QUITE fit the characters they were supposed to, but for the most part I like the musical interpretations of these video game icons. The diversity of styles is really nice, too.
Overall, it's a good buy.

Recently I've gotten into Amon Tobin and Skrillex. Skrillex's track on this CD is excellent, but sadly it seems as thought the rest of the tracks aren't quite up to par. I am by no means a musical expert, but I'd recommend checking out some Venetian Snares or some of Amon Tobin's work over purchasing this CD. It's listenable, but just not as consistently good as one would hope.

Most tracks are un-inspiring and only 1/2 baked in their production. Skrillex is the exception and everybody else sounds boring and cause me to hit the Skip button a lot more often than I would like. Just buy the Skrillex track if you like it.... nothing else here makes me want to play it again.... pretty bummed - MK usually pushes or tries to push the envelope with their game music but this is sub-par in most cases.

Not perfect, but clearly an indication of the dedication the world has to Mortal Kombat.
From politicians to young children. Mortal Kombat is a lifestyle, and this music fits it.
Buy this today, and support the MK scene and Ed Boon.
